I am picking mine up in two days. Also in ebony finish. From the promotional video that Gibson has put out with Charlie and Dinesh Lekhraj introducing the guitar, Charlie states "in the 70's, lots of players decided they wanted Grover tuners. They were there when I got it, so there they stay." Thanks for your take.

I am extremely excited you got this guitar. I can't say Im a huge fan of Starr's band/music but the guitars look and sound great. Also from the interviews I've seen of him he comes off as a thoughtful and genuinely nice guy. Excellent review as always.

I got one, but even more importantly I really liked your review! Thank you!

Just played walnut one today at my favorite shop, and it was really hard for me not to buy it 😅I mostly play and try to cover somewhat metal and hard rock/hardcore songs, but recently tried few guitars with p90s(this one and Novo Serus J) and holy I love the sound and feel of these things. I put a limit on guitars that I can have(at least for now), but that LPJ and Novo made me re-think and reshuffle what I want in my collection. Great video btw, thanks for review!

Almost 2k subscribers. congratulations!!!!

Excellent video, Ben. Thanks!

When I got mine a little hesitant but now can't put it down freaking love this guitar

Cool guitar!

I can't remember if you have any other les Paul juniors, but if so, a comparison video would be cool.  Love the sobering riff you used, hearing it now.  for the sound demo video, you could reedit all the sound demos into one video.

Great in depth video as always.  I never thought I would like an over wound P90 but it sounds pretty good.  How is it in the room, does it have a lot more noise than a standard P90?  And yeah, that Walnut looks amazing.   Sorry you lost out on that one.

I somehow got a new Dark Walnut one of these just before Christmas. Must have been one of the very last ones and I really love it. I expect these to go up in value quite a bit.

I grabbed one of the Lukas Nelson Juniors in 2020. Pre ordered it as soon as it appeared (without much press) on the website. During the waiting period, a rep from the retailer who had the order (different person from my usual sales person) called and said it was gonna be awhile till the LN came in and I should consider a regular Junior (less expensive, better finish, etc). I told them I wanted the satin finish and the compensated wraparound on the LN. I surprisingly did get the guitar I wanted, and it's killer.

Thanks for this !!!!! really great !!!! ....i'll take the 50s wiring on a junior every time !!!!

I really would love one of these, but was unsure about the satin finish and how it would wear (shiny).  Gibson site says "High-Build Premium Satin Nitrocellulose Lacquer", but I have no clue what that actually means and how it differs from other guitars listed with "Satin Nitrocellulose Lacquer".    So guess I would just settle for regular LP Jr and get the compensated bridge that Bukovac recommends as a replacement.    BTW, excellent video, thanks for the run through!!!

i have a 2019 lp jr, it weighs in at 6.8 pounds. very well made, fit n finish excellent, plays very very well

I bought a new junior and added the Leo/Quan knock off bridge and some nice Kluson tuners  also took it for a proper set up and he sanded down the nut just a skoshe and did some fret leveling and its a wonderful guitar Not quite the CS model ( I wish I could've gotten one ) but this Jr is pretty dang close and boy does it sound great !!

Just for reference the pickups that my 2017 Epiphone LP Special P90 Soap bars have are Alnico V Neck (8.2K) & Bridge (9.4K). That's a Guitar Center/Musician's Friend/Sweetwater exclusive for the time it was offered & purchased (Summer 2019) as a $ 149 on sale for $ 129 that goes back to 2010-ish that could be had for +/-$ 99. While I like the Blackberry Smoke C Starr Jr, it doesn't seem like it's anything special that a few parts upgraded and you're into playing essentially the same guitar for $ 80-100 for a pre-owned P90 guitar. For weight, mine is 6.2 lbs, well balanced as well. It's a great guitar that I stumbled across as my 1st ever purchase of a guitar. Mine is also a Chinese Epiphone, so it has the rectangular square hex type tuners, the Lighting bar wrapover 1 piece bridge & intonated fixed line. That's why I said I could chase a $ 10-15 wrapover bridge with the adjustable saddles and be into a more accurate C Starr Gibson that MSRP's for $ 1,999.. That makes the guitar a horrible deal for me, knowing the LP Special P90 Soap bar is all over the aftermarket listings for under $ 100. Even with upgrades for the next string change, this is a $ 150 guitar. One can mod a LP or even cut a blank pickguard to do exactly what the single ply does. As I did that with mine, a Chinese 3 ply pickguard was about $ 4. If you really wanted to go there, $ 15-30 and a Chinese Bigsby part B3/B50/B500-like can be mounted on the slab. As for matching bling it goes quite well with the chrome 1 piece bridge part. I did that too and used stainless steel inserts to make it a professional convertible for going back & forth with a Vibrato. There's gotta be similar brands to Gibson already doing this guitar, especially since Epiphone is. Epiphone price hikes are absurd for Chinese guitars. And I really don't want to hear that China slave labor excuses for the gouging. Sounds to me like Epiphone is already doing that & gouging consumers as they inflate their prices too. That seems to be a Corporate USA theme, use China's Communist labor model & gouge USA consumers as though this guitar were made in Nashville or Kalamazoo. But that's another debate that only Gibson or Epiphone can answer to ? whining about not being able to compete is one thing. Yet another to be complicit & then gouge USA consumers is not only slave labor, but price gouging. It's piling on if Chinese slave labor wages is criminal. And then pointing the finger at the Chinese. The Chinese may be doing that, but the price of what they're making is still well under $ 200, not the $ 2K that Epiphone or Gibson are trying to gouge consumers for. Remind/Tell me again, who are the real criminals here ?

I just got my Dark Walnut version, I had to get it from a Dealer in Japan. I ended up giving $2200 for it. They are priced at $3500 on Reverb and EBay. Mine is brand new in the original box with all the case candy plus the Japanese booklet. It is awesome, why did I wait this long to buy a Junior? It has sustain for days and play clean to fully distorted. It is definitely a win.

I think I agree with you on tuning keys.  On bass I prefer Y keys over Clover style.

It was Lukas Nelson that got me into Juniors and afterwards I got into the Charlie Starr rabbit hole. I absolutely love the simplicity, feel and growl of the Junior. Enjoy that sig series, it looks and sounds great. Based on the extras - especially the scanned neck -  $400 more is a good deal, imho. That’s the kind of extra you can’t just buy or reproduce on your own. And I also think key shaped tuners are a better fit.
