Speaking as a writer here. It's genuinely fucking awful that the future may be headed in a direction where interactive experiences are no longer allowed to inspire deeper thought, and it's unfortunate that this ignorant desire appeals directly to corporate, cost-cutting, profit-maxing, ethics-ignoring, AAA tendencies. A cheap thrill is now placed at a higher value than the ethics of the treatment of those whose hands contributed to the creation of the experience. I understand that, at times, it feels good to turn your brain off and enjoy something, but it's worrying to see that any game striving to go beyond surface-level, vague, politically-ambiguous concepts is being treated with such hostility at a moment's notice. It speaks to the dangerously low level of media literacy in consumers and an equally-if-not-more-dangerous low level of "reality literacy", which is what I'm calling the skills that allow us to meaningfully interact with and interpret the real world we are surrounded by. (It should also be noted that a lot of internet people who desire so-called "apolitical" experiences simply want experiences that cater only to their values. An "apolitical" world is a world in which conflicting/abnormal ideas, identities, and voices simply cease to exist, which makes the fact that so many people wish to immerse themselves in such a world very frightening.)

To everyone reading, please create the art you desire to create. Don't be afraid to leave your mark on the world, and don't be afraid to write a message alongside it as well. Your perspective as a human being, as an individual, as a person, will ALWAYS be important. And, the next time you consume media, keep in mind all the contributors that made it possible.

Signalis is the most meta work of art I've experienced so far. Its references aren't just references or inspirations, they're realities and memories seeping into an increasingly distorted world and the way it worms into the players' minds is uncanny. Why would she curse me like this indeed.

I'm extremely late to the game here - I FINALLY picked up Signalis about a week ago and it's absolutely consumed my entire being. I'm really glad I found your video (after beating  the game, of course). It not only deepened my appreciation for one of the best things I've played in a long time, but also gave me some much needed encouragement to keep going with my own art during a time I've really been struggling. Thank you!

I keep forgetting that this is a "small" channel. This quality of videos and effort put into them is just too high. Its funny how when you start watching a niche youtuber, after doing it for a while, you forget they're niche and just think they are mainstream.

Had a friend who bashed any game that wasn't directly and openly told as "shit, talentless, effortless, boring" etc. and eventually had to end the friendship because he was so laser focused on just pure straight up anime shounen-like things, so your long rant about people not appreciating subtle worldbuilding really hit home.

"The desire for efficiency creating inefficiencies" is the best way I have ever heard for that shit companies cough my job cough do.

Truly grateful for the unfathomable gears behind the youtube algorythm lining up to recommend me this video a year after its upload. This essay is remarkably well written, narrated and put together with part 8 in particular deeply resonating with me and leaving me feeling utterly vindicated, hopeful and accompanied in our collective defence of the value of art.
