I think the victim's mother deserves a bit of kudos for defending the wrongfully accused. That takes true strength and moral conviction.

Cops that ignore facts and coerce someone into a false confession should be fired and charged.

There should be some kind of charge for standing by and letting someone else be punished for your crime. He got less time than the wrongly convicted.

I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT UNDERSTAND why the cops that do this dirty shit don’t have to serve jail time themselves?

The mom that looked past the conviction to see the truth is an absolute badass. Takes a lot to change your own opinion in the face of a conviction by the courts.

The last five minutes of this story is some of the most depressing things I've ever heard....  starting with the poor mother in court, the killer's remorse, and then the innocent guy getting killed....   what the capital F#%K!!!!!!?!?!?!      I feel empty inside after this.... damn....

Sickening that the cops got away with complete corruption....

You have to believe the original detectives had to know deep down that Chris wasn’t their man. The level of evil it takes to play with someone’s life like that is on par with the actual rapists and murderers out there.

20 years for a crime he didn't commit, then killed for something you shouldn't be killed over.

Its so tragic that after everything they put Chris through he was recently murdered. And they didn't have the decency to refrain from taking credit for solving the case even though it was Angie's mom that fought relentlessly for justice. The court system here in idaho falls is a cesspool of corruption and its disgusting watching them pat themselves on the back after how they treated the victims family and an innocent man. Thank you for covering this case you did an excellent job ❤

Idaho Falls PD should feel nothing but embarrassment and shame. And it's just gross that those cops, so-called detectives at that, coerced a false confession out of a young and very naïve man.

They should be doing 20 years right now!

Speaking as a mother, I am so glad that Angie and her mother made amends before this tragic event!

The fact that those cops have not been held accountable for coercing Chris to confess is criminal. They ruined that mans life to the point of a very sad end.

How can that monster say he's sorry when he was more than comfortable letting someone else rot in prison for his crime? The ending with Chris was so tragic, it seems like he couldn't navigate his life properly after prison, he deserved so much better. I can't imagine how that would've affected Angie's mum too.

he wasnt grieved enough to walk in and save that boy from taking the blame for his crime and rot for 20 years in prison

Knowing someone is in prison for something you did and still keep quiet just shows what an absolute scum bag he

Credit to carol for being open to the truth and not just accepting that the cops had the right guy

The judge even said he was conflicted because he thoroughly believed that without the confession, there would've been no conviction

The fact that it took 20 years to uncover the real predator while an innocent man sat behind bars is just horrifying. Angie Dodge’s story is heartbreaking enough—and then to realize Chris Tapp lost decades of his life too? Unbelievable. Thank you for telling the full story—this is exactly why wrongful convictions matter and why DNA evidence is so crucial. Chilling, powerful episode as always.
