As soon as the 100-400 photos were displayed I felt that there was a noticeable difference in colour, contrast and clarity. Impressive.

People don't do these products justice. For this price point and weight and portability this is bloody amazing and absolutely destroys all competition. This product makes it possible for young photographer to go out and take amazing photos withithout spending the kind of money most of us would spend on a first car or something.

Thanks man. I was undecided between the two of these lenses, but I think this video decided it for me. The extra reach and sharpness are important to me, and I can (just about) afford the 100-400mm, so that's what I'll go for. Thanks!

does your copy of the 100-400 have the stiff zoom ring problem?

Like the shots and balanced review of the lens. I have the 100-300 and thinking about the 100-400, but I also have a zoom camera for small birds so the limit is the no tele-converter. I wouldn't pay more than the 400mm price. But I also have a full frame with a 100-400mm (with a t/c) lens and its unlikely I would go for the 150-600mm lens cos its heavy. So the M43 100-400 mm might just plug a gap. Thanks I think you have cleared my thinking.

I own this lens. Worth the price. Build quality is very good. It is a beast! And the range! However the zoom ring is not smooth for video.

I have had both. The 100-400 is clearly a step up in IQ. It is much better built. Better reach. osts twice as much or a little more. It is one step up over the 100-300 and 1/2 a notch below the 300 mm F4 oly when it comes to sharpness. So if you want better IQ in a zoom it would have costed 3000 euro or so. The 100-300 I found is decent like you say.The Oly could wel l be worth if for those who are more demanding than you (and I) are.

it clearly is worth it for you : very nice pictures in the wild .
I personnally have the recent updated version of the 100-300 currently on a G85 . It has dual is 2 and weather resistance unlike yours. More than about budget, this combo is meant to be powerfull but still light to carry around for general purpose . I have found that the 200-300mm range is more usefull than expected but rarely miss the extra reach to 400mm of a specialty lens that could stay home when i don't expect to use it . It's nice to have that choice.
