Gene Roddenberry, when speaking at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in October 1983, told all of us in the audience that Star Trek 3 will be the best Star trek film to date based on the dailies that he was watching. When the film was released in the spring of 1984 it was indeed a major hit.

It is such a quiet movie, too. I watch it now and then as an antidote to today's loud, fast, videogame movies.

I'm a lifelong fan of Star Trek and thought I knew all the lore surrounding it. This series about the films is undoubtedly the BEST I've ever seen. I learned so much I never knew about the creation of the original film series. Absolutely fantastic work and you definitely earned a new sub!

Definitely a favourite I grew up on, quoted it all the time.

Growing up, I always enjoyed 3 as the continuation from 2. I was saddened by the destruction of the Enterprise of course, but happy by the resurrection of Spock. However, an element changed for me as I grew older, specifically after I entered my forties and I became a father for the first time.

The element that changed was Shatner’s reaction to David’s death. When I was younger I was sad but not heartbroken for him. Now, I can’t watch this scene (even while watching this video) without bursting into tears. It reminds me of the scene from Lord of the Rings: Two Towers where the king of Rohan, Theoden, buries his son Theodred and tells Gandalf, “No parent should have to bury their child” another scene that hits so much harder now as an adult, and as a parent. But back to 3: I’ve never really been a huge Shatner fan, but his performance here and the shock and subsequent grief is genuine, and as I said, I can’t watch it now and not be moved to tears. It’s an amazing performance and it’s made me respect Shatner much more as an actor.

Star Trek II and III are the best movies. Love the section where Kirk finds the young Spock, and him ageing to Spock. Powerful stuff.

When naming the original Star Trek Klingons you forgot Kahless the Unforgettable. You brought dishonor to your house.

I will always remember seeing grown men leaving the theater in tears because the enterprise had been destroyed.

I can't watch this film without launching straight into part IV. This film definitely dispels the odd numbered = bad myth. It's such a good film. Saw it in the cinema and have absolutely adored it ever since. And my take on the villain's name is definitely "Kroog" and I went by Valkris mentioning it before she was blown up by the Bird Of Prey.

19:58 I had always thought it was paper to protect the costume from makeup and they forgot to take it off for a shot

I wanted to comment again to thank you for the inclusion of the “what does a yellow light mean?” joke from Taxi which I had never seen before seeing it in your video, it’s absolutely hilarious

I saw Marc Okrand speak once about the Klingon in III, how Lloyd rewrote a lot of Klingon grammar on the fly (like leaving off the end of sentences). Nimoy was generally unwilling to sacrifice a good take for bad Klingon, and Okrand hoped that it could be cleaned up in post. There were also some Trek concepts that Lloyd didn't get. Nimoy would explain to him that in this scene he would be talking to his ship. Lloyd asked where this ship was, and Nimoy pointed up and explained that it was in orbit. Cameras rolled, and Lloyd would look up and talk to the ceiling. Nimoy would call cut, and explain that he had to use the communicator prop, and in the next take, Lloyd would hold the communicator with his arms spread wide, and talk to the ceiling again.

the soul transfer at the end was actually explained. dame judith explains that this hasn't been done in a long time and could not only kill spock but also mccoy. there was even a joke about it during the exchange

when dame judith asks if mccoy understands the risks of possible death
mccoy responds "i do" and then turns to kirk and whispers she picked a hell of a time to ask.
overall the movie was great.

Wow, I had no idea how much work went into this movie. I think Lenard Ninoy is a genius at directing. Rick Berman was wrong for not accepting any of Lenard Nimoy’s input when he asked him to direct Star Trek Generations in 1994. If Rick Berman stepped aside & let Lenard Nimoy do his thiing while collaborating with Nick Meyer & Harvey Bennett, Generations would have been a masterpiece
