I listen to a lot of your stuff while at work. I work a 12hr night shift in a manufacturing plant, and long form content like yours has gotten me through many nights.

Les Johnson is absolutely amazing! I truly hope we get to see the implementation of this sail technology among the many discussed in the interview in my lifetime too.

Absolutely love Mr. Les Johnson’s enthusiasm for his field 🙌 🚀 🌌

I remember once seeing some live space shuttle coverage of a tether experiment in orbit. I noticed the tether had a black charred appearance. I thought to myself maybe it had been exposed to voltage. Nothing was said about it at the time. Not one word. It seemed a bit mysterious. Glad today to get some confirmation as to what was going on and that, indeed, an electrical charge can explain the charred appearance of the tether.

I've fallen into the event horizon all the way from Scotland, Edinburgh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

have a great weekend everyone 🪐🛰️📡🌌

Best place to listen to it i.m.o.
Sometimes nod off (:please don't be offended) so end up listening several times to catch it all

Nice to hear the call-out for Robert Forward at 18:08. Dragon's Egg is one of the best books ever written.

This was a fun listen. Hope Les joins us again!

This is fire John.

Wish we were already at this stage and hope we get there. Thank you for showing what’s possible.

I met Les at Eve Vegas in 2014. Super cool dude got to play Eve Valkyrie on an Gen 1 oculus with him. Blew my mind. He has a neat story about transporting antimatter (if I remember correctly) and what surprised his team is the DOT already had a spec on how to transport.

Earth space elevator does not have to be tethered at the equator. ... But yeah, let's build some skyhooks.

And John, I'm positive you have actually heard of a skyhook. Isaac most likely has talked to you about it at length.

Speak of Isaac Arthur, you should get these two on the show at the same time.

I love all things tether. I feel like the tech is a potential steampunk counterpart for electronics. I really like the tether based mega stuff like Jupiter mass accelerators and interstellar craft.  I have no idea how practical it would be but it would also be cool to see something like a Jupiter, tether based cycler or the like.

Love Les Johnson's energy! This was very enjoyable to listen to!💥💫👍🏼

42:05 Not quite true! 30 years ago, the joke was that fusion power is always 50 years away; now the joke is that it's always 30 years away.

So, even according to the cynical attitude of the joke, there's been progress!

Wow that was a great show!  Would be amazing if we could somehow fit one of these tethers to James Webb in the future to keep that mission going when the propellant runs out!

Great stuff  show so enjoyable

Great interview! More more!

I listen at work, cause I do NOT want to sleep through these things.
