I think younger people have listened to such manufactured music for so long that they don’t know how to appreciate someone who sings with raw emotion.

Mate, maybe you just have a bias against Bono, but to be blunt, you have absolutely no idea of the talent and range required for a male singer to deliver vocals remotely like Bono does here. The best way to test his vocal prowess is to try and sing along to even 1 of these songs yourself, in Bono's octaves. You'll quickly discover that it's an utterly impossible task for you to replicate even 5 seconds worth of the skill he has. This generation truly is the end of music.  Don't mistake Bono's showmanship, confidence and passion for 'theatrics.' I imagine you would see the ceiling of the sistine chapel and think 'hmm..it's not too bad.'

its like having an eleven year old tell you that 'Bach's boring'

This album is "The Dream" of any musical artist. A work of art so perfectly crafted it will stand alongside anything ever recorded.

I'm gen Z. I listened to "Achtung Baby "and "The Unforgettable Fire" before "The Joshua Tree". Gotta say, it's definitely one of the greatest albums ever made. I cried when the outro of MOTD started playing. It's my favourite song along with RTSS. Perfect.

He distilled his distaste of Bono’s vocals to a single telling element: when Bono slides into or off of a note. This makes perfect sense as it would be entirely foreign for an audience raised on “music” where auto tune snaps all sounds to the nearest note and doesn’t allow singing and sliding around notes.

A singer with soul . It's a beat like he is crying .  The dream album . Epic band .
Unforgettable

Bono has earned his ego. One of the all-time great frontman for one of the biggest bands ever. Why wouldn't he have an ego? He is great and knows he's great. All the best have/had massive egos. Mercury, Jagger, Daltrey, ect.  If you don't appreciate his voice, that's on you. But cite me one time he wasn't humble. One time he wasn't respectful to others. Fans, other artists, the media. He has  massive range, full of emotion, and writes phenomenonal lyrics to boot.

I bought this the day it came out (I am that old), I was a casual U2 fan at the time. I popped it into the cassette player in my car and was blown away. I drove around in my car for a long time just to hear the whole album. It was wonderful.

Bono’s voice ? That’s raw passion and soul.

Now listen to Achtung Baby. Probably the greatest musical pivot / reinvention in history.

You should listen to Achtung Baby now and see how the band evolved and moved on from the Joshua tree. It was like a completely different band

The auto-tune generation react to U2. It's a bit sad tbh...

Not sure you have any clue.   Great band, one of the greatest albums of all time.

The last half of 'Exit' sounds like the Earth is coming apart and everything is falling into the hole.

I think some of the younger generation don't understand how ahead of the times this album was. And they're even better live. And anyone who sings live and plays live music gets it. No auto tune lol.

My brother was a huge U2 fan, I was a good bit younger than him and never got it, then he brought me to a live show when I was 18….. I suddenly GOT IT. Ive seen maybe 100 plus artists live since and none come even close to that experience.

It's a perfect album. 56 minutes of greatness.

Pitch corrected singing is NOT the normal state of music for the previous 100,000 years of human history.  Keep listening to this kind of music to feel real feelings. You will get it one day.

'Exit' live is something to behold.
