One of the biggest surprises we got with Nocturne was the appearance of a bonus Belmont in the form of Richter’s grandad Juste! Though it would’ve made more sense to me if he had mentored Richter as some of Juste’s magic abilities also utilized what would essentially be the Item Crash: Richter’s most powerful attacks! Maybe that’s something they will touch upon in season 2….
I still remember the day that my Dad and I went to Toys R Us after school one day to pick up Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. And for the next couple months I’d watch my Dad explore Simon’s Quest almost every night after dinner. He’d play and I was somewhat of a gaming ‘navigator’ for him; searching for secrets in gaming periodicals along with Nintendo publications. But the Castlevania game that has more nostalgia and love for me is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. As I got it for Christmas in December of 1997 (just weeks before my 16th birthday) while having to spend over a week in the hospital. And both while at and after leaving said hospital this game got me through pain, loneliness and the medical unknown (as it took several doctors to finally, actually diagnose my extremely rare illness at the time). That being said, I absolutely love this game and it’s lore. As I’ve gotten older I’d say that my favorites would be Castlevania, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and of course Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Symphony of the night was the second one i ever played after Nintendo. I spent hrs playing both castles and finding everything i could and playing over and over. My favorite from a not so far away memory. 20+ years ago now
18:05 - Another piece of Belmont history left out: Because Shaft had manipulated Richter into becoming "Lord" of Dracula's castle, it was decided that the Belmonts could not touch the Vampire Killer whip until 1999, when Julius would be able to seal Dracula's castle in a solar eclipse. In Order of Ecclesia, Shanoa and Albus meet 13 villagers who share the Belmont bloodline. By absorbing the Glyphs that Albus used to immobilize them, Shanoa was able to handle the final piece of the Dominus Glyph and absorbed a part of Albus's soul. Castlevania 64, Bloodlines, and Portrait of Ruin features Reinhart Schneider, John Morris, and Jonathan Morris - who were each related to the Belmonts even though not direct descendants of the bloodline. They fought Dracula in the Belmonts' stead between 1852 and 1944, until the demise of Dracula could take place as predicted in 1999. As for Nathan Graves and the Baldwin family featured in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, it is unclear what their connection to the Belmonts might be, as Circle of the Moon was also left out of the final official Castlevania timeline.
6:13 - One detail of note: According to the Castlevania Wiki, Sonia Belmont's "Legend" was said to take place in 1450. Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse took place in 1476. Thus, if Legends were still part of the official timeline, it would likely make Sonia Belmont in the role of Trevor's mother - not as Trevor's daughter.
Richter Belmont my have been the prodigal belmont, but it was Johnathan Morris that broke the curse that freed the Vampire Killer from darkness.
My favorite belmonts are Trevor (both original and Lords of Shadow), Simon, and Richter Belmont. Honorable mentions is Abraham and Gabriel Van Helsing, Julia Belmont, Sonya Belmont and Alucard.
I hope Konami finally releases Casstlevania on consoles. I'd love to see full 3d remakes of the old games with updated Lords of Shadow gameplay with rpg mechanics.
Truly trevor and julius has the pureblood having no talent in magic yet excelled in combat. I remember julius continuesly destroying bosses soul without sealing them.
