Cool kit 😎Glad to see it go to a good home! I didnt plan on selling this kit but Zach came by one day and had interest in it and after realizing I broke a head on it like 2 years ago and not touching it since I figured I could let it go lol. Also, I swapped out the rods on the 12” because I had some in the stash that were nickel. I had plans to make it all nickel, but gave up on that pretty quick haha. Always cool to see old drums live on 🤘

Mike + rdavidr = me crying

You need to get together with David and do a "What you up to now, Dave?" video.

Dude, the tuning when you first start playing them is perfect.

Congrats Mike! I totally agree with you! I grew up in the 80´s. And in the 60´s and 70´s Ludwigs were the ultimate kit you could own, but they were definitely gone in the 80´s when Pearl, Tama, Yamaha etc. appeared... so, for a young guy, a used Ludwig was very affordable! Nearly every drummer i know owned one. And nearly every one of them is missing his first Ludwig these days! I wish I never sold it...
And after a 45 year long journey as a drummer, using Sonor, Remo, Yamaha etc., I went back to the good old Ludwigs! And this kit you bought is a real beauty! 🤩👍

sounds a lot like my 63’ Rogers. great tuning sounds great

I just picked up a 1960’s Sonor in Red Sparkle 20-13-16 and love the sound of vintage drums. Enjoy those club dates

Very nice kit Mike! Had a Ludwig champagne sparkle kit as a kid myself. Love the Motown track that you use for the demo as well! It’s all about playing the song. imho 🙂🥁

Great little kit, especially with that backstory!

Awesome little kit! Love the first tuning. Congratulations!!

Love the sound of those drums. They have a great tone

Gosh these sound great! Congrats on the killer pick up!

I am a Canadian but would like to share a story about a vintage kit I bought from Ace drums in Florida.  While visiting my snow bird parents, we dropped in to the drum store and I was asking if he had a 13" tom to complete a WFL kit I was working on at home.  He gave me the keys to a back storage unit that had a lot of drums, but the only 13" mahogany 3 play in there was part of a blue sparkle 3 oc WFL shell pack.  It was marked as a 1957 and the name of a previous owner was painted in each drum, one with a local address.   A google search did turn up that name it obituaries.  I wonder if he labelled them when purchased, then pent a lifetime playing and abusing them, and passed during restoration in his elder years.   There had been mac tac stuck over the blue sparkle and someone had gone to great lengths to remove it all but a small portion on the 13 remained with glue residue and some bits still there.  The wrap was rough but intact.  Anyhow, he offered me the whole shell pack for what I whole have paid for one drum, so a deal was made.
Obviously, I wasn't about to break up this shell pack to finish my other project.   I had some nickel lugs at home and also used some chromes to get it up and running, I left the wrap untouched (patina) and managed to find a full set of vintage 50s calfskin heads to put on.  Resos and batters in usable condition for $60 Canadian!   Now I am the proud owner of a pre plastic era WFL with period calf skin heads.

Sweet stuff! I'm learning to appreciate vintage drums 😊

I love watching the Smalls Jazz club live streams. Lovely micing and mixing.

That lil Canopus kit seems to sound better every night! All the legends who've sat there have provided energy and passion, soaking into the drums and making magic.

Thanks for some inspiration! ✌️💚🥁

Wonderful kit.  I'm a ludwig guy so I love anything vintage ludwig 👍

I’m always so happy when you post a project video. This one also had very interesting side notes. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful stories.
Where has Travis’s gone? I haven’t seen anything from him in such a long time.🤗🙏♥️

Very nice kit.  Great history on these drums.  They sound great.

rdavidr is the man! collab vid?!

I'm a big fan of the frosted EQ4 on a 20" bass drum. I also use coated G1 as reso heads and it didn't seem that common. Glad to see someone doing the same. Great head choices!

That kick is pure gas!  It sounds great.  20×14 is the best size in my mind.  Keep up the cool videos and congrats on getting a cool vintage kit!
