We had a case here in the US where a shor line railroad was servicing a customer at the end of a branch, who only got a boxcar or two delivered every few months or so.  Pushing through the weeds, all of a sudden THUD, they were on the ground.

Investigating, they discovered that in between their last service to the customer, and that present time, someone had literally stolen the railroad.  The entire thing, rails, ties, all of it, was gone.

In the initial scene showing the roof, I supervised the lifting of the two aircon units that are on the roof, when the Paddington Express works were being done.

For the guy who was stopped from getting on the Reading train...Many moons ago I caught a train from Kings X Thameslink and was lucky to get an express. As the doors were closing a lad sprinted on all out of breath and sat down. When we got to the next station the doors stayed shut as the train was only waiting there for a signal to proceed, Our late arrival was attempting to get off when a rail employee said "the train doesn't stop here mate" - which was weird because the train was, indeed, stopped. "What's the next station?" asked our hero only to be given the bad news - "Luton". I was laughing so much I had to hide behind a briefcase. If that wasn't bad enough, I knew he would have to return from Luton on a stopping train to get back to the platform which was tantalisingly just out of reach on the other side of the doors to where he was standing.(Edited for a typo)

In order to be a thief, you need to not care about the damage you cause or the people you upset.  It's ironic that the thieves will only make a tiny fraction of the money that their action cost the railway, and probably delayed passengers too.

I get that the man was probably tired, hence the lack of patience. But those season ticket vip or whatever, mean absolutely nothing when incidents happen that are out of control of the staff. Who knows what happened to the driver? Hopefully nothing serious, but you can only imagine what the reason is that they could not be there to drive the train. For all you know, the person could be fighting for their life in the hospital, meanwhile you're just sleepy. People have lost the common sense that real life is not the same as online life. If it was as easy as clicking a button and magically a train driver appears, I'm sure that staff member would have done it, before you even thought about complaining, just to avoid you yelling at him.🙄

I can't believe it took 2.5 hrs to bring in a relief loco. That's terrible organisation. Especially in such a critical area of the track!

So they just have the cables laying out where people can steal them still? Across the pond here basically everything is buried underground, wireless over RF, or run on the rails as track circuits. Never heard of this kind of theft here unless it's the AC power into the signal control cabinets

There was NO excuse for leaving that train sitting there for 2+ hours.   There should be a dedicated rescue locomotive sitting on a siding nearby or in the closest depot just for moving failed trains.

Yeah the police wont show up to sounds of an angle grinder lol they barely show up for assaults now a days

What I don't get is why the HST from Swansea was sat there for two hours when they could have pushed it into Paddington at any time... the rescue train was there the whole time just waiting, so why did it take them so long to get it moved?
