Fun fact, there were photos taken of Britannic sinking that existed until WWII, but were damaged during one of the bombings of London.

I'm genuinely so happy the Britannic is so well preserved. It's the closest we'll ever get to the Olympic Class.

HOLD UP! Dude just casually has a Wood panel from the Olympic???

It's incredible how well preserved the wreck is

My grandmother visited the Olympic in Southampton when she was a young girl. Anyway fast forward to the early 2000s, we were watching Titanic together, just a few years after the film came out, and she suddenly recognised the grand staircase from her childhood. I always found that remarkable. She must have been under ten at the time, yet she carried that vivid memory for over eighty years. She had no idea the two ships were connected until that moment in the film.

Testament to the irish builders who built these ships to last, even at the bottom of the ocean.

The HMHS Britannic had 1,036 survivors out of 1,066 people on board when it sank on November 21, 1916. The death toll was 30 people.

The high survival rate, compared to its sister ship the Titanic, was due to several factors:

Proximity to land: The ship was close to the Greek island of Kea when it struck a German naval mine, allowing for a quicker rescue by local fishing boats and other nearby vessels, primarily the HMS Scourge.

Lifeboats: Following the Titanic disaster, the Britannic was equipped with enough lifeboats to accommodate all people on board.

If the engine room truly is still intact this footage would likely be the only known photography of the Olympic class engine rooms. I don't think Olympic's, Titanic's or Britannic's rooms were ever photographed, or at least have photos that still exist.

This would be huge for Kyle at Honor and Glory!

To think that both main engine frames (and the central turbine) are still intact and in position on their bed plates, hanging sideways, is really mind blowing. It's incredible how preserved she is.
It's easy to see why you're so excited. I think we all are.

I can only imagine how disorientating it is being down there.

Seeing a diver and seeing photos of the wreck is so haunting

It is insane to me that the Britannic hasn’t been explored nearly as much as the Titanic 😮

Its not nerding out at all. All shipwrecks like this are like looking at something from the dark side of the moon- its out there in legend, but to actually see it again is mind-bending. I remember that was my reaction to seeing the Titanic exhibition at Greenwich in 1995, and looking at the actual bell which Frederick Fleet rang that April night at 11.40pm. Returned from 12,000ft down ...  from the dark side of the moon.

OMG THE POTATO ROOM IS INTACT

The pictures of the Britannic's Grand Staircase are amazing but also haunting.

After seeing the Britannic’s grand staircase, I’d like to think Titanics only vanished due to how hard she hit the seafloor. Britannic sank relatively gently compared to Titanic, and hitting the seafloor ruined all of the supports and made them collapse. I think they’re on E-Deck in a pile perhaps

Still looks like there's even still floor boards and other wood furnishings, thank goodness for the marine life, looks like it's on our side in preserving history! Way to go corals and barnacles!

I read that the wooden fittings of the grand staircase were entirely removed (just like most of the ship's wooden panels and such) and some very drabby looking temporary stairs were built on the metal framing due to fears that the staircase would be worn down or damaged. The "Titanic: Honor and Glory" guys have videos posted of a virtual walk-through of Britannic in her originally intended RMS design, which was GORGEOUS and more luxurious than Olympic and Titanic, as well as walk-through videos of what she looked like when she ultimately sank as a hospital ship. In the the HMHS videos, they have the "true" grand staircase completely gone and those boring temporary stairs in it's place.

Imagine just rotating ur body while ur down there to match the angel Brittanic is. You'll get a feel of what TITANIC was like and you'll be able to be the one to step on her floors for the first time in years

I’m wondering that the reason why the Britannic is holding up so well is because of the double hull added after the titanic sank.
