I came here for the white teeth jokes and i stayed for the conversation.

Ironic hearing a YouTube watch influencer complaining about people getting influenced by watch influencers on other platforms.

I went to an A. Lange and Sohne boutique, was dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, and told them I wasn't buying but wanted to look around.  Not only did they invite me in, but the boutique manager walked me around, answered questions, and let me see any watch they had in their display cases.  Rolex, AP, and Patek treat their customers like crap, and that's even if you want to buy something.

Talking about taste with them teeth is hilarious 😂 😃 😄

There’s an element of “reverse psychology” with all luxury brands. The more luxury the brand, the ruder the staff. The reason for this is they make customer believe they are not good enough to buy their products, this in turn makes rich people more determined to buy that product to prove they are worth of buying it and quite often they’ll spend even more than originally planned to prove that “worthiness”.

It’s an ego thing. Being told you are not worthy, when you have an ego, makes you more determined to prove that person wrong. You just don’t realise you’ve been played big time

Watching this makes me long for the old days. When I started collecting you could buy any watch from any brand. The prestige and rarity came from the price. Not everyone in the world was chasing a few watches. No one cared about mechanical vs quartz. There was no such thing as resale value.

I can remember the early to mid 1980's and the local "watch scene" of the day. An authorised Rolex dealer in Melbourne, Australia (the retailer was called "Dunklings" - long gone) had a Rolex display in the window - Stainless Submariner, GMT, 18ct President, Datejusts, and a stainless steel Daytona. The Daytona was about $1900 (AUD). It sat in the window for years, no one wanted it...

I suspect Rolex ADs sell directly to grey market dealers for some extra Brown paper bag money

You have to be ridiculously Rich to wear a Jacob & Co watch that looks almost identical to a $20 watch from Walmart. The vast majority of people are going to think that's a cheap watch, only the owner knows how expensive it is

Watches, shoes, purses, clothes. I've always felt so much more free that I couldn't care less what the logo is. If it does a job well and I like it, that's perfection to me. A timex is more accurate than a Rolex and I don't have to worry about my arm getting cut off. Also, why not get a good fake if you must have the logo?? I cannot get it.

Rolex is destined to follow the same path as De Beers. Corner the market, manipulate their customer base and eventually suffer the consequences.

AD employees on their phone, acting like the rude sales-ladies in "Pretty Woman" has got to be a US thing. I've visited quite a few European jewelers who are Rolex ADs and while none of them would sell me a watch and all of them would tell some version of the BS-story about scarcity and "low supply", they were all super friendly and very accommodating. I remember one place in my hometown being chock full of customers so I had to wait until one of their sales-team was free to talk to me and an assistant coming over every few minutes to thank me for my patience, being super friendly and even offering me some champagne. And that was despite the fact that I told them I was just looking around and that I wasn't going to buy anything on that day.
Of course, the bottom line was still the same as being ignored by some chick talking on or staring at her phone - "we don't have any stock", "you'll have to be patient", "perhaps you'd be interested in a Tudor instead?", blah, blah. But there is a difference between being told "no... piss off" and "I'm so sorry that this is taking so long - can I offer you a glass of champagne while you wait?"

Wait, you mean to tell me that premium brands charge way more than they are worth?  Groundbreaking…

The dentures are going to fall out

The luxury is the journey, that is so deep but simple.

Walked into Jaeger LeCoultre boutique in the Forum Shops Las Vegas. Wearing a Tudor black bay 54, with multiple people in the store looking around. The security guard looked at me and shut the door and stood in front of it 🤣

Rolex waitlist: “We’ll call you when it’s your turn.” Me & the girls: “No worries, the rep sites like wristova already texted.” 😂

I've visited perhaps 10-15 Rolex ADs around in Europe the last decade or so.
Always given the royal treatment. Very service minded, patient and friendly staff.
