I was about to make a joke about how Sonic should just be able to attack several times in a turn because he's so fast, but this game actually thought about that. That's actually kinda cool. So instead, I'll just say I love how Cream once again gets to shine.

Cream being the most OP character in a Sonic RPG never ceases to amaze me

Also, despite it's undeniable shortcomings I really like Chronicles. Sonic franchise is PERFECT for a light RPG format. Chronicles tried to do that, and honestly... The core gameplay is jank, but the concept and roster and stuff is something I would love to see in the future. Literally zero hopes for that, but hey. I would love to one day create my dream team of Shadow, Blaze, Eggman and Metal Sonic and save the day

Dude it’s so rare to see anyone really go in depth with the characters and their abilities. I didn’t even know most of the characters information within the game.
Then again I didn’t fully understood how stats worked years ago.

The thumbnail is genuinely the perfect embodiment of doing a challenge like this for a game like that alone and then I get to see the context for it.

Can't believe the game permanently lowered your defense just for one gimmick encounter.

Ok I get Rouge is using Charm to the enemy to distract them. But the thought that cream has a move called Demoralize makes me think she is saying or doing the most demoralizing thing to the enemy. It must be pretty bad if a literal child can break your spirit lol😂

I remember when I played this game as a kid, I couldn't figure out why I couldn't beat the first boss. I saw the quicktime event for their attack and thought to myself "why is it doing so much damage? They're missing all their inputs!" It was an embarrassing amount of time later that I figured out that I was the one supposed to do those, I thought enemies did their own inputs.

I loved this game as a kid and I'll never forgive Penders for robbing me of a sequel. Unreal run, gg.

Honestly, Chronicles is EXTREMELY underrated. Like, it explained so much lore and tied up a few mysteries.

If it wasn't for Ken Penders, we'd have more information on what happened to all of these ancient tribes Sonic runs into. (Knuckle's tribe, the gizoids, the Babylonians, the whole Sol Dimension, the Ancients, etc.)

Like, I truly do believe that some otherworldly power just keeps on going "Oh shoot, this group of people is getting too powerful. Gotta nerf them by banishing them to another dimension/killing them all."

The Angel Island incident of 2025

ngl I find funny how the challenge was being quite easy sometimes with just a bit of luck then suddenly the game starts to literally cheat just so you can't beat the bosses that easy lmao especially with the stat thing that is just crazy

weird how you have to play a gacha that didn't come out at this game's release in order to get that one cutscene trigger, always fun to learn about older game's weird code
lmao

you're the only person on the planet who would do this for this game by the way

I'm a Chronicles obsessed person.

This is amazing work, man!

It's incredible warming to see such quality done on Chronicles, and the more minute details about Chronicles.  All the small things lodged in my brain are being presented to a more general audience, so now they can finally understand the weirdness of things like the names for the stats, Attack & Defense.

Just so I can get my fill of infodumping, 31:29 is slightly wrong.  Rouge actually also has the Steath ability...  b-but it's also Rouge so... Shade is on the only character with the Stealth ability.

Oh, and MelonDS doesn't usually work with Chronicles.   I can only play Chronicles with an old version of DesMuMe, I have no clue why.

I've talked to someone about the logistics of a no-damage run before, and I've read stuff from someone who was quite knowledgeable on it.  There was one major roadblock always on the discussion.  I was directed your video, and once I saw the thumbnail, I knew just exactly the pain you went through.  Admittedly, we never came up with a solution.  That makes me even more exuberant that you (or rather giving the credit to Yoshi, with his rad discord server tag) found a solution.  The people I talked to didn't have a Japanese copy.  We all knew about the Viral Chao, but we obviously couldn't use them.

We never even got to the point where we can complain about the defense slicing.  This has been a observable thing directly AFTER the charyb fight for some reason.  I can't remember the reason exactly.  I thought it was from the water messing with your defense, and they just never reset it, but that's not Knuckles/Shade team.

Congratulations!  Thank you for making this video.

And tell Yoshi7200 that I'm jealous of his knowledge, and he could kick my ass at Chronicles Brain Ranking, I will need to siphon his knowledge in some way.

Ah, Sonic Chemicals, the Dork Brothership

Honestly super happy to see people still playing Chronicles. Yeah it's janky as hell but I adore it all the same 🥰

the only impact this game had on broader culture is that one gif of Tails being knocked over by a SWAT robot. god I wanted this game to be so good as a kid but it's so mid. never thought of a no damage run for this game, shoutouts to creeam being goated
EDIT: what on earth is that defense drain in the final chapter. what. huh
EDIT 2: honestly couldn't have made a better ending if you tried

I remember finishing this game at least ten times. I loved the aliens.
Thanks for having made this video.

21:18 "They don't make 'em how I used to" that is so eggman

AH HECK YEA! CHRONICLES CONTENT IN THE BIG 25
