On the night of 1 November 1872 the ship Nordkap runs onto the skerry Pickaren, west of Käringön. At six in the morning the island's lifeboat goes out. Käringön is half a square kilometre of rock, far out in the sea off Bohuslän. No fields, no forest. Yet 652 people lived here in 1910. This is the story of an island that had to manage on its own, for three hundred years: the fisherman's son who became an admiral, the woman who denied everything through a witch trial, the lighthouse, the priest, and the four men who rowed out in a hurricane west of Shetland in 1906. Everything said in the film comes from sources: newspapers of the time, court records, church books and museum photographs. Swedish narration with English subtitles.
