I took a friend who had never seen Kill Bill before to see The Whole Bloody Affair, he audibly gasped when the duaghter reveal happened, it definitely works better this way

That daughter reveal works much better now.

the "now give me the other arm!" is brutal on this new version 💀

My wife & I were already Tarantino fans when Vol.1 hit the theater.  We decided to do something crazy.  Clearly there was going to be a Vol.2 at some point.  We didn't see Vol.1 when it came out & avoided any conversations about it on the off chance it would come up.   When the DVD came out we bought it but didn't watch it.  When Vol.2 hit the theaters we went & bought tickets for the 630pm showing & returned home.  We lived about 10 minutes from the theater.   At the appropriate time we unwrapped Vol.1 and began watching.  When it was over we drove to the theater and went right in.  "our feature presentation" was up on the screen as we took our seats to watch Vol.2.
It's a bit corny but we're both proud of ourselves for pulling this off.  I think Quentin would have thought it was cool.   ;)

7:19-9:00 As someone who saw the film for the first time via The Whole Bloody Affair, it was genuinely mind blowing to learn alongside Beatrix that her daughter was still alive. I knew that a cliffhanger ending was removed, but I didn't know what the cliffhanger was. So when I looked it up after seeing the movie, my reaction was pretty much what you said in the video: It's a good way to entice viewers for the second film, but as a plot twist it's much more emotionally impactful and narratively engaging to only find out about her daughter at the same time Beatrix does.

For context, the newly added animated sequence was produced by the famed anime house Production I.G who also made the original sequences a while after the original release. This new sequence was made some time around 2009 or before when Quentin wanted to make an integral cut of the film like how he showed it at Cannes. He had put in everything he wanted with his camera back at Cannes, but with with the new cut he said might as well make the animated sequence that would have been too long.
This integral cut became what we know as this TWBA cut.

Also the original script had the whole Yuki's Revenge chapter which became the fortnite short lol

13:52 I heard Matt and Trey did a similar thing with South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut every time the MPAA asked them to remove something they swapped it with something worse and the MPAA were okay with it because they feel like they did something

I always thought the black and white scenes were a creative choice, and thought it worked really well, might even prefer it stylistically.

I'd never seen kill bill and I didn't know anything about it going into the whole bloody affair in the theater.
the ending reveal that the daughter was alive blew my mind.
i'd spent the whole 4 hours wondering how it was going to end--worried that she was just gonna get revenge and then ride away and Tarantino's' point would be that revenge is cool and action scenes are neat and dont think about it too much, but the moment she got to Bill's and saw the daughter,  I realized there WAS something to fight for besides revenge, and I realized it the same moment the bride did. i had no idea the originals spoiled this. i think keeping that until the ending was a much better choice.

Watching the The Whole Bloody Affair in cinemas has been the best cinema experience I’ve ever had. It’s my favorite movie ever!

Changing a work after its initial publication is extremely common in classical music, and I find it really annoying how performers will very often ignore the composer's prefered version and play some other version instead. The worst case of this is Für Elise, where almost nobody ever plays the version that Beethoven actually prepared for publication, instead playing what is extensibly a rough draft.

Edit: Lots of people responding with arguments against artists having editorial control of subsequent editions of a work. Most of these arguments were already addressed in Rick Worley's video on the Star Wars Special Editions.

I actually liked the switch to black and white. Especially with the music sounding like it came from an old gramophone. It made it feel like an old samurai flick

@19:59 He HAD to reinsert that shot of the soles. 😆

I was in High School when the first movie came out and the fact that there's people that just now saw it for the first time.... made me feel so fucking old.

We finally have Kill Bill as a single film since Quentin Tarantino originally wrote the script as one film and shot it as one film.

I wish this had a wider release last year.

Way back in, like, 2001 or 2002 or so an early draft of the script for Kill Bill leaked to the interwebs. I remember reading it while I was in college, long before the movie was filmed let alone came out. A couple details you might find interesting:
The black and white sequence where the Bride is talking to the camera from Vol. 2 was in the script, and was originally how the whole film opened. It went right from the opener of Bill shooting her into the scene of her driving and talking. That's why Chapter 1 starts with a voiceover narration with no introduction or lead-in. It was originally a continuation of THIS narration.
The House of Blue Leaves sequence switching to black and white and back again was in the original script. It was an homage to the similar censorship that old kung-fu and ninja movies (like Sonny Chiba's old movies) faced when they were brought to the U.S. in the 60s-70s. The fight scene itself wasn't really written out properly. It was just a list of "here's a bunch of cool things that happen in no particular order" over a couple pages.

The "Bonus Chapter" with Yuki Yubari attacking the Bride was the original Chapter 6. The current Chapter 6 showing the chapel massacre was not in the draft I read. Obviously there weren't any Fortnite references originally. The chapter ended with the Bride injured badly in the fight with Yuki, and getting patched up off the books by a nurse named Bonnie. The same Bonnie mentioned (but barely shown) throughout the last third of Pulp Fiction.
The sequence with Pai Mei was originally supposed to be dubbed instead of subtitled, again in homage to old kung-fu movies. Some early reviews of Vol. 2 (including Roger Ebert's, I'm pretty sure) describe it as still being dubbed, with Quentin Tarantino doing Pai Mei's voice.

I like the creative choice made for B&W and using the blink to come back to color before focusing on O-Ren was amazing. People get "mad" at Lucus and others changing things like this because they are etched into our minds and feel less like the moments of times and beats  we experienced.

It's subtle but I like the slower approach to the Esteban scene. Originally it felt like you were playing catch up with the scene during the dialogue, now you have a sense of place well before they meet

I remember seeing this with my cousin in 2003 who is a QT fan. She brought a friend I sat next to. I turned to her before the movie and asked if she was Quentin Tarantino fan. She looked at me like I asked her what sect of space aliens she was aligned with. As if films aren’t made by humans with names that are credited before and after a film. Instantly I knew this was her first QT movie. 😅 She quietly sat through the movie but was particularly angry enough at the bride’s mistreatment of French Lady that she said out loud, “Oh, yeah go ahead, roll her down the hill.” It was interesting just going to a movie with a casual and knowing that girl never watched Kill Bill again. We were thoroughly entertained.
