How To Ruin your Rival - Bastion Misawa

I love rivals in video games and anime... so it makes me mad how you can take a great concept like Misawa, and utterly screw him up.

Let's talk about it, shall we?

0:00 - First draw
1:03 - Who is Bastion?
4:33 - The Fall of a Genius
7:38 - Too Much "Main Character" Energy
14:01 - Season 3 and Lacking Substance
19:47 - One Final Turn

Love how theres an episode that literally points out how ignored Bastion is... and then do nothing with him afterwards.

They really couldn't let anyone other than Jaden (and sometimes Chazz) get a win

I find it kind of funny how most of GX's characters poor writing fall into the fact that they just love Judai so much with the amount of duels he gets

From one of the smartest and best characters to an occasional cameo when more characters where introduce ...

Something with Zexal, they actually did the two main actual rivals pretty well Shark and Kite are skilled and stay pretty involved the whole story

I clicked this video instantly! They did my boy Bastion SO fucking dirty!! 😢

The fact that he was shown to have six different decks and we didn't even see half of them is insane to me.

Not only that, but you just made me realize that Bastion had no backstory..it took me years to realize that!

A rival done dirty.

Probably why the manga writers took one look at him and tried to salvage him in the manga and Gove him his respect back.

sadly he was one of the many hit by the replacement toss away when the new 'cast' moved in.

Even the love interest got shoved aside for a new one!

The fact in society of light they had a great set up for a tag team Duel of Jaden and Bastien vs Blaze and T-Bone. Instead Blaze just gets erased it’s just T-Bone vs Jaden.

Dude is SO much better in the manga adaptation, then again nearly everyone is better in the mange universe.

Get your game on, Kamen.

Seriously, we'd all love to see you go over the cast herd of GX and how that led to every character not named Jaden, Chazz, and Zane to struggle for a shot at the spotlight (An honor Aster and Johan were lucky enough to obtain in their respective seasons).

Honestly one thing that bugs me a lot is that Bastion just quit the Society Of Light, remember, the Society brainwashes you and you can only be brought back after being beaten in a duel or have sheer willpower to break it off however, Bastion never got any of these which makes me believe he was pretending, it's sad and he went from potential rival to Meg griffin

Sebastian never felt like a rival to me even in his introduction. Idk what the category is but he feels more like whatever brock from pokemon was

It's hilariously sad that he just up and disappears during the tournament. Not a soul asked about him before he randomly showed up again next season.

Remember the first intro that had the fire and water dragon with him?

Such wasted potential...

"Hey now,
You're an All-Star,
GET YOUR GAME ON!
Go play."
Fingers crossed for that GX video.

This man, legit, had one of the best plot hooks in the entire show and ended up so dysfunctional he could qualify for government assistance.

I really liked Bastion`s duels in early GX, so I was really sad to see how he was handled so poorly in the later seaons.

Also, for all the mistkes the dub makes, his " I beg your pardon?" line always makes me laugh.
