I think what was different about humans back then was that for them, the moment was a one off, even a recorded television show. They did not have the readability of playback looming large over all interactions, the hesitance to make a false step, the self consciousness, they simply were, in the moment, for the moment had no brook to haunt them later on, the cache would be cleared with sunset, some greater harmony with the passing of time which we have stymied in our desire to conquer aging and death.
