Catholic Saints Stories | Hidden Halos
For fifty years, the wounds on his hands bled and never healed. His own Church investigated him as a fraud — before making him one of the most beloved saints in the world. This is the story of Saint Padre Pio.

Padre Pio was a Capuchin friar from a poor farming village in southern Italy who bore the stigmata — the wounds of the crucifixion — on his own body for half a century. Doctors examined him for decades and found no explanation. For over ten years, the Vatican investigated him as a possible fraud, restricting his ministry and nearly transferring him away. Yet by the time of his death in 1968, he was one of the most visited living figures in the Catholic world — and in 2002, the very Church that once doubted him declared him a saint.
