Pacing Jacob To A Parkrun PB - Is this the world's fastest 8 year old?

In September this year Jacob broke the Parkrun World Record for a 7 year old clocking 20:29 over the 5K distance. Having recently turned 8 he decided he wanted to run a sub 20 and his dad Steve asked if I would take on the pacing duties for his attempt. Of course I said yes and it was with great pleasure I joined them at my local Parkrun at Arrow Valley to speed around the lake. What time did Jacob run and is he the fastest 8 year old out there? Join us to find out.

As a 38yo, I became serious about running for about the last 1 year, and managed to bring down my lifetime 5k PB from 24-something to 20-something (originally aiming for 22 min this year, then discovering the power of a good taper - including in replenishing iron levels). I've been going for my dream sub-20 realistically for about a month now, hopefully it will happen early next year.
Nice one Brett - outstanding video! Made better by the fact he beat Andy’s time 🤣
Brett you are a Top bloke massive well done mate 👍
