I'm in NSW Australia and 5yrs ago bought a reasonably tidy ’06 Silbergrau M5 with 100K Klm on the clock, for AU$37k.
In the first 6mths of ownership I put AU$8k of replacement parts in it, myself, including everything you mentioned in this video... big-end bearings, all new VANOS lines, throttle body gears, thermostat, injectors, all fluids, all the >2008 bottom-end parts I could buy like improved squirters, timing gear, chain guides etc,... on and on it went for about a 6wk project up on the hoist.  I tell everyone who'll listen how it was worth every dollar and skinned knuckle just to have it feel & drive like the AU$250k car it was first sold as.  Its just incredible to own and to drive and words can’t describe how great this car really is.  I’m so glad I bought it and it will never leave our family :)

@M Tech Guy - your videos are fantastic and gave me the courage to buy a low milage 2008. I will be doing all the maintenance outlined.  You should setup a Patreon or other means for those to support your content. It will save many thousands of dollars.

Up here in the northern hemisphere this is a fright before midnight - nightmares await! Seriously though,  good advice that should be followed. Bad maintenance  results in a bad car.

Seriously though, another great, well put together video. Was fully aware of all the known pitfalls of buying one of these beasts/beauties when I bought mine. Thankfully the Rod bearings, clutch and throttle actuators were all done within the last 2 years prior to me buying it. I did plugs and brakes and oil/filters and diff fluid change when I got it.
But really want to do a gearbox oil change, so just re watched your ace video on that.
More importantly I want to do the Injectors so look forward to watching your video on those when you’ve had chance to do yours.

If you experience vacuum in the fuel tank, or if you know/suspect that it has not been done for many years; change the fuel vapor canister, it will get blocked. (See another great M Tech Guy-video on this topic!). My car had vacuum when I bought it. Check engine-light came up shortly after starting the car. The BMW-workshop ran several diagnose checks for the previous owner,  but was not able to identify the problem. (They cannot have done the simple thing; unscrewing the fuel cap. If they had, they would have heard the car gasping for air).

Don't forget the radiator flush, kind of a dual system. I love people that don't want to spend the money on 10w60 oil, they say 10/50 etc works.

Would suggest changing active charchoal filter box also, so u dont get vacum in the fuel tank. And evap valves the same time so the fuel get the right amount of air. Also can cause uneven on idle

Another good video sir.. a couple of other things are the starter motor and the radiator cooling fan. The cooling fan motor can work on an active test from a diag tool yet not work when you need it to.. in other words the motor is fine but the module doesn't take instruction from the car. The cooling fan on these should come on at a slow speed within 5 mins of engine start up and build up speed as the engine heats up. Worth keeping an eye on as it could save you from changing the water pump when having any overheating issues. Unfortunately i'd changed my water pump before diagnosing the cooling fan..
