It often seems that Europe's ruling classes are preparing peoples and states for imminent conflict. The recent and much-celebrated Draghi Agenda also appears to have this objective. It is therefore essential, before it's too late, to identify the causes of an increasingly out-of-control situation and find tools, not only political, to halt this mad rush toward disaster. Hence the idea of offering a thoughtful reflection on the strong similarities between the current European political situation and the one that led to the First World War in 1914. Underlying this reflection is the belief that the apparent global unification under a single economic and social system—neoliberal capitalism—is unleashing a fierce competition between "animal spirits," which, as then, may attempt to resolve its contradictions through war.
