Do you think you earn well because the doorman greets you and you have a brand new car in the garage? I hate to break it to you, but appearances don't factor into your net worth.
In this video, we compare your net worth to the average real net worth in Brazil, in reais, using official data from UBS's Global Wealth Report. Follow the financial autopsy of two people: Helena, who earns R$ 6,000 net in São Paulo, lives in a rented apartment and drives a financed SUV; and Cauê, who earns R$ 3,800 in the countryside, drives a 12-year-old economy car and owns a fully paid-off house.
You'll see what happens when we deduct what belongs to the bank — from withheld FGTS (Brazilian employee severance fund) to 48-month mortgage payments, from credit card revolving debt to the property deed. The final result usually humiliates the ego of those who live on appearances.
Before deciding if you're winning or falling behind, watch the calculation to the end and discover your side of the line.
