Hasbro can't kill D&D for us old timers. We make our own games, using books we purchased 40 years ago.

Whenever a CEO tells me that I need to adapt to their product, that's when I find a new product.

That AI-generated dungeon:

(1) Has no room #2
(2) Has two rooms with at least two different markers (Kitchen/Mess Hall v. Alchemist's Workshop, Cistern v. Prison Block)
(3) looks to have two markers for the treasure vault
(4) has 2 places where the stairs don't line up
(5) has at least one doorwaythat goes nowhere

On top of also having no interconnection between its two branches, no sleeping quarters, and a couple of other flaws with placement of windows and water sourcing.

50 years of gaming and now, all I'm grateful for is past editions. I won't give Hasbro another dime.

I play Dragonbane in a setting I created from scratch. I''ll probably never play official DnD ever again.

my hot take: auto-generating a character doesn't help a player to understand the character. filling out your choices by hand gives you a better grasp on it, especially for new players to understand what everything does and how things work on it.

Hasbro forgot one thing:
RPG work, and got popular, because the DM was doing the heavy lifting using a very flexible game system.

You do NOT need Hasbro to play TTRPG. You need a game system, and there is dozens and dozens of good systems out there, and the content you can now make it up yourself.

Q:  How do you know when a politician is lying?
A:  When their lips are moving.

Why do I care what AI produces based on statistical data? If i'm going to buy or otherwise use material, I'd rather have it created by an imaginative human.

Telling customers should expect rather than finding out what they are willing to pay for sounds like a dubious strategy.

It's not the business of science fiction to predict the future but to talk about the present from an oblique angle.

I used to spend hours with the Player's Handbook rolling up a character - to me, that too is "playing" D&D.

I’d rather have a crude grid-paper map made with markers on a sheet of paper that my GM carefully planned and styled for our group than a generic, realistic looking map generated by AI.

D&D is so synonymous with its industry, its branding has become the colloquial* title. Like band-aid or windex. I have not run a WOTC product since the OGL but everytime I explain what I do with my weekends it's starts with "Have you ever heard of D&D?"

It's like 'coke' in the southern US, "want to play d&d?" "Sure! What kind?"
*Edited for spelling

D&D Achilles heal : it's a game owned by a corporation run by oozes running around in skin suits.

I still have to ask how many human-made dungeon maps were stolen and fed to the AI so it can "create" that dungeon map.

They will always try to F an IP into the ground until they hit "restart" and then repeat that process over and over and over....

LOL Dungeons & Discourse thumbnail 😂😂😂

I refuse to use AI to generate characters or Dungeons.

For Dungeons and Discourse, every other day is doomsday
