Back in 1991 Hyundai released the Super 386D, featuring a 33MHz AMD 386 processor. Many years later I saved this from being scrapped at a local ewaste recycling plant. Now it's time to restore it and get it working! Can we fix it? Let's find out :)

Thanks so much for watching! I've got about 15 videos that I'm currently working on, stay tuned for those sometime soon!

How dare YouTube hide this from me for 1 minute ?
Also SkHynix is a Hyundai spin-off, probable the division that made this PC.

Hey psivewri, Necroware has a drop-in replacement for Dallas RTC modules that uses coin cell batteries. Definitely worth a look!

When testing a PS/2 mouse on a serial port with an adapter, remember to reboot or power cycle the computer, as PS/2 is not hot-pluggable and needs initialization, that is done by the driver. Most early PS/2 mice were compatible with the serial protocol, it seems strange to me that none of your mice woud not work in serial mode. For the mouse that doesn’t detect vertical movement, check the alignment of the LED-IR detector for that wheel, and ensure there are no broken solder joints or damaged traces on the LED. Often, a small shock can misalign the LED and photodiode, causing those ball mice to malfunction.

There is a new method for the Dallas chip that completely removes the plastic top and simply unsoldering the old battery. The battery holder sits on top and gets soldered to the same places as the drill method does. Most useful where clearance is tight. The battery holder is glued down.

Actually owned one of these, back in the day. First "real" computer in the house. It was powerful (for the time) and reliable.

A touch of bakers fluid or flux will make your life WAY easier when soldering

The Dallas chip can be "opened" with a hot air station; behind the cover is just lots of resin that can be removed, use the hot air to "detach" the lower part of the chip from the cover. Then you can replace the tiny old battery with a new one :)

I just realized my dad has an old Hyundai monitor, I never realized it was from the actual car company until I saw this video where the PC had the exact same logo

My family's first PC compatible was a Blue Chip PC, an 8088 system manufactured by Hyundai. It had the same basic form factor as this 386 system but without space for a 3.5" drive. It was momentarily the cheapest PC you could buy with 512kB memory, a single 5 1/4" drive, and a Hercules compatible graphics card. We got a green monochrome monitor to go with it. Reading the Wikipedia page on Blue Chip, they had a falling out with Hyundai after less than 2 years and Hyundai started selling their own branded computers. The Blue Chip PC was an ok starter system but we quickly sold it and upgraded to a 286 and then a 386 when I was in high school.

The same that mitsubishi used to make cell phones and home appliance and computers.
As a child i had a mitsubishi computer rocking a 286 processor.

These days we've found out, as a community, that the resin case can very cleanly be chipped off with a heatgun. You would get a lot nicer result.

My first IBM-compatible PC was a Hyundai 286, a gift from my grandmother. I credit her (by that gift) for the enthusiasm which led to a long, happy career in the golden age of semiconductor design. Love you grandma! I’ll see you soon

Been into these lately too, the best looking mainboard era imo.

Man, may God Bless you. You took me to the past nostalgic years. 🎉

Yes, Hyundai, in those days manufactured not only PCs but RAMs and ECMs used in automobile industries.

Western Digital was an OEM PC maker in the early '90s. I think they may have manufactured the KLH branded 386SX I have.
Recently pulled a Micron Millennia out of the scrapyard and learned they made PCs in the '90s.
