I just hope you don’t feel pressured to force yourself to like the things people around you tell you that you used to like. If you’re reading this, I imagine this situation must be incredibly difficult, and I hope you remember that you’re still allowed to decide who you want to be, even if the people around you are hoping you’ll return to the person they remember.
I don’t know enough about memory loss to understand how much of someone’s personality, preferences, or sense of identity can change along with their memories. Maybe your taste in music, food, relationships, or even the things you value has changed too. If that’s the case, I hope you give yourself permission to discover who you are now rather than feeling obligated to recreate who you were before.
The people around you may miss the person they knew, but you don’t owe anyone a performance of your old self. You’re allowed to enjoy the person you are today, even if that person is different from the one everyone else remembers.
