Agree about the lock area. Looks like the latest freewell was more successful on this.

NISI have great glass but need a redesign on the system is needed especially on the locking mechanism.

I am in complete agreement with a needed design change, as I had the same experience. I love my Nisi Jetmag filters. That is the only improvement I would do to it. I would add I item to their catalog : a rain hood (1 sided lens hood) that could be rotated to cut glare where/when needed, and just keep rain off the glass when that condition is present.

I have your same cons about the nisi.  I thought I had locked mine, but knocked my VNDs off of my lens.  Luckily it fell into my camera bag.

I bought the creative kit Abe returned it after 3 weeks.
It was way more kit than I needed and not enough of what I actually would use.
Nisi also nickel dimes you for what you DO need that’s not in the kit.
I don’t need 4 step down rings of different sizes but could have used 4 67mm rings.
The 1-5 vnd was perfect for what I needed and the extra 4 stop was way too dark, even by itself  (I use it on the beach high noon for video mostly).
I don’t like the guessing with what stop you’re on with the vnd and how easy it is to bump into a different level.
The main thing that made me return the Nisi was how easy it was to bump off my camera.
I lost a full stack once and spent 3-4 hours back tracking the trail looking for it.
You also have to buy extra front caps (at least 1) for a lens cover at $40 a pop and $75 for a front and back cap pair.
Because I also bought a bunch of extra filters like the black mists… I needed more caps.
I had to buy a front cover for every lens I had to also step down rings for to act as lens covers. You can’t use your stock lens cap with the filters/step rings.
I ended up going back to polar pro.
I ordered 2, 2-5 kits for the same price as the one creative kit.
I went all in with Nisi and really liked the 1-5 but it was not worth the cost to headache ratio buying the entire kit.
Get the 1-5 and add what you need and save a lot of money.

The review on Polar Pro was kinda harsh lol
They’re well known to be high quality and I have them for all my other cameras and no problems… ever

Good thoughts….interesting comparison

The PolarPro Recon system is kind of a hidden gem that nobody talks about. It’s a 3-7.5 stop VND/PL with clip on front filters. You can use the clip on filters on their own with a mounting base as well. So if you get the 2-stop fixed ND, you have a 2-9.5 stop range. It comes as 82mm but the filter itself is larger than that, so you never get any shadows or color casts. It also looks super nice compared to anything else lol (with or without the matte box installed)

Oh man, love this video. Just buy all. I got both systems plus both systems with threads. What I love with magnetic systems is the stackability. I wonder though, what should be the best order for NISI when you stack PL, ND and mist? I just have ordered the Polarpro combo where you have all three in one for Helix Maglock. As there are so many use cases, there are so many needs for various accessories. Greets from Berlin

Dustin, could you please tell if MagLock filter will magnetise to Jetmag? I'm thinking of getting MagLock diopters attach them to Jetmag as this is a system I invested money but unfortunately they do not have diopters.

The problem I'm having with cheaper vnd is that the image gets really soft/blurry at like 400mm focal length. I've read that PolarPro has less of this issue and that NISI actually also has a bit of that problem as well. Curious if you've tried testing that?

Great video. I'm thinking of getting the Nisi jetmag pro vnd and a nd 64 giving me a total of 11 stops. Can you think of any drawbacks with that mix?

Recently bought the jetmag nd16. Didn't realize they had already brought out the vnd. Shame

I love my nisi jetmags but they've fallen off a couple times, recently on asphalt, denting the outer frame a bit and making one of the handles fly off. Thankfully the glass is safe.
I really wish that the they have a version that would just lock tight rather than spinning around freely. j
having the camera on a sling, the filters will rotate over time and get loose and that's something that I don't want to worry about. For daily shooting, I've reverted back to some screw on filters. Not as high quality but more peace of mind.

I learned that Freewell has solved the  issue at 11:19 with their Brandon Li version. Did you try this one already? :)

10:05 Being able to go to one stop of ND is really nice, but what would be even nicer is to be able to go to zero, so maybe you could just keep the filter on at all times and immediately go shoot indoors, etc.  Pro video camcorders have had built-in multiple ND filters (not continuously variable, mind you, but it got the job done) for decades, with a clear setting for no ND.  Yet somehow, that seems so elusive in the mirrorless hybrid world 🙄

It’s interesting, some of the higher end landscape filter companies, like Maven, started offering LPL filters as alternatives to CPLs, because they cause less color shift and have a stronger polarization effect. Wonder if these new nisi use that too?

If you could get any polarizer and ND which system would you go with? 😎 Thanks for your time!

Can you review the Kase Revolution Plus series? I know they don't have a VND (hopefully *yet*), but there's some features I like about that systems (inlaid base ring, ability to use lens hoods, etc), but I don't see a lot of reviews comparing their color accuracy. I'd be very interest to see them agains the JetMag system.

Too bad Freewell only makes them in 82mm and I'm not putting that on my Leica Q3. I ended up with NIsi and very happy with it.

Hello Dustin! I'm happy to see a new video from you and really appreciate your expertise. I would be very grateful for advice 🙏
I'm starting as a travel and portrait photographer and buy my first mirrorless camera. I'm considering buying the S5D with the phenomenal Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 for a good price. Does this combination make sense? I'm not worried about the weight. But perhaps the camera is too weak technically, or the lens is overkill? Thanks in advance!
