What do you think happened to Poe?

I watched this a couple days ago but my pain was bad (I have severe chronic abdominal pain) and couldn't concentrate enough to leave a comment. The pain is still bad, but I keep thinking about this video and just had to say it was brilliantly done. It towed the line between being somewhat gothic at times, sardonic and witty at others (all those quips about the somewhat-suspiciously-ever-present mother-in-law were most appreciated!) and then deadly serious when the script needed it. Phenomenal work, Tom. I had no idea Poe married his 13 year old cousin at the age of 26 - yuck and predatory! I'm a bit of a goth myself and had liked some of Poe's quotes and poems but damn, that fact alone makes me less than enthusiastic about calling myself a Poe fan.

Seems most likely he was a victim of the cooping political practice at the time, seems to fit all the oddities surrounding his death. I'd never understood why he was dressed in different clothes but that would explain it perfectly. They said online they'd use alcohol and even opium occasionally to both tempt and placate their would-be-voters and would sometimes get violent with their victims too, so perhaps (given there was no autopsy) he could have had internal bleeding or a perforated intestine/bowel/colon or even a bleed on the brain, something that might not kill you immediately, but would generally kill within days, esp given what seemed to be rather lack-luster treatment by the doctor. If he did have the flu, that could have also added to his problems, perhaps a respiratory issue, pulmonary edema from a blow to the chest or being out in the cold, whilst sick, intoxicated and injured?

Also, loved the editing choice between your drawing of Poe and your re-telling of the story, it breaks up the video so we're not just watching stock video clips. Lovely drawing. Nice and gothic!

Despite your numerous essays at the  assassination of Poe's character, this is actually quite informative. So,  thank you very much.

And a brilliant artist to boot! 😉🇦🇺

No, my friend.  I do not think you have a “punchable face”…..yet.
Seriously, I’m impressed with your work and am going through your library of offerings.  So far, I’m enjoying what you’re doing and find them all to be to well-written, intelligent and full of information that is almost all topic relevant.  Having been born in America, I’ve always believed I belonged in England, Ireland or Scotland.  I am a lover of old world ideals, architecture, traditions and, yes, even the period dress.
You’re good at what you’re doing and I’m betting one year from now you’ll be very good at it and will then ask for money for “more content” that many can’t afford so, once again, we are treated as “less than” because of it.
Oh darn it!  So sorry.  I didn’t mean to jump into the “money, money, money” of our current world.  I DO love your work and will be out here watching.  Keep up the great work and when you decide to “go for broke”, I’ll try to get a loan to get “special content!”  Be well my friend.  ❤️🐈

A most unsatisfactory outcome all around. 1849 Baltimore makes the authorities of Tudor England seem competent. 😢❤😢

Maybe the hospital were in on it and the coop'ers went too far 🤔

As an amateur archeologist since my preteens, so 45 years or so and specializing in defunct graveyards, the notion you said that the brain decomposes first is totally false, the brain is incased and its the only organ to have this feature most burials are above the water table in the soil it is a quite often found occurence that the brain decays like a dried plum and over time it turns rock hard and when you would pick up this skull you will hear rattling as i have many times over the years.

😂😂😂😂 I don't think you've got a punchable face Tom! I DO think you're freakin hilarious though!! 😂😂❤

"Do I have a purchase face?" Well I didn't think so, but......👊
(Couldn't resist, sorry)

An arrogant, tortured, genius. That's Poe, not you, Tom!

I think k you got his cause of death spot on. All the others are completely implausible.

The actor Bill Murray looks like him. Bill is definitely punchable.🤪

Personally, I prefer seeing THAT politician with a milkshake, rather than a pint 😜

Yes Poe looks punchable. No, you do not look punchable. Of the two last words quotes I think the first is most likely.

Personally I would have prefered to see Starmer when compared to Poe as a so called politician.

And once again a modern day historian falls for modern day views that completely ignore history of the time. People really need to look at their own family tree if they really want to condemn history because yours is far worse.

Just a reminder that every negative thing said about Poe was written by Poe’s former friend (they had literally ended their friendship just before Poe died) and it’s mostly crap if you actually look up the medical records that are available about Poe.

As to what killed Poe, have any of you actually looked into the medical treatments of the time, let alone the diseases? Also Poe was self medicating with what Poe could actually handle and almost all of it will kill you with constant use.

The underlying annoyance is obvious throughout the entire video, almost awkward to watch. I'd almost say "well done", but I think you had a more difficult job suppressing the ventilation of even more irritation. I don't care what happened to Poe, I don't like him anymore. And what happens to all the drawings you make? Are you selling them to patrons or somewhere else? I know you set this one on fire, fair enough, although it was an outstanding piece of art.

Yep. Definitely keep politics out of it. You've insulted a good part of your fan base. It certainly detracts from your main job. Thumbs down, regardless of Edgar Allan Poe's fate.
