The original Pulse is quite good. It's a little wacky in spots and sentimental, but genuinely has a lot of creepy moments endemic to Japanese horror cinema. Simply put, if you like Japanese ghost stories, the original's got you covered (also, the "ghost walk" scene is so stupidly creepy it's not even funny).

@MistaGG The Japanese original was a social commentary about Hikikomori (Shut-in) sufferers in Japan, and how the internet completely altered society breeding more shut-in's through it virtual connections. Hikikikomori were like the living dead, and the internet gave them a new connection to the world. The cries for help are pleas for other to save them from being alone shut-in. "Death was eternal loneliness"

The original Pulse, called Kairo in Japan, is the worst movie to try and remake because it was the product of a very specific time in Japanese culture. The makers of this film saw the popularity of the Ring and Grudge remakes and thought "we can do that!" But no, you can't do that! The 90s was kind of a dark decade for everyone, including Japan, their bubble economy had burst following the neon fever dream that was Japan in the 80s. Japanese horror throughout the 90s and early 2000s is a reflection of that period of history and Kairo especially so. It's basically a product of a decade of economic and social depression and the early internet where forums like 2Chan were full of paranormal tales and creepypastas.

Just about every 2000s era horror that got released, I watched with my Mom.
I remember her take on this being "Oh, I hate when the trash is in the streets."
Sure, Ma. The worst thing about the ghost apocalypse was the garbagemen not keeping their schedule. In hindsight, it really says a lot about this movie if that was the only thing worth commenting about.

Kairo aka the original Pulse is most definitely worth at least a single watch. Rather slow burn, but has a very iconic and suspenseful horror scene that's pretty unforgettable.

The original pulse (Kairo) is so phenomenal and the scene where the ghost walks across the room and stumbles is absolutely horrifying. I hope you give it a watch!

Fuzzy white demons have definitely become a trope. I have to imagine the tv dying and going to static suddenly jumped scared a lot of horror  writers when they were kids.

Fun fact: The director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Nicholas Stoller had never seen nor heard of Pulse, he and Jason Segel came up with the idea while brainstorming terrible movie ideas to put in the scene. Kristen Bell was mad at first until she found out they hadn't seen it.

GG has the ability to have the most fresh ass haircut with and without the hat. Truly a inspiration

The movie's premise just reminds of this quote from Xavier Renegade Angel

"If the computer virus is infecting people, than I need to get a human virus to infecticide the computer."

The original is just eerie and sad. The director did Cure which is another great one. He knows how to create an atmosphere. The remake of Pulse is just awful.

Octavia Spencer was doing bit parts like this for years, she had a 70 second scene in blue streak too. It's like they knew she had something because they gave her speaking parts, but they didn't know what to do with her

Ah yes, one of the many strange trends of the 2000's horror era to look back on: "Let's Americanize every Japanese horror gem we can until one of them sticks!"
The Ring (2002) & The Grudge (2004), the first (and arguably) only good ones: "Are we a joke to you?"

I just gotta give props, you are probably the only content creator that I actually watch the whole sponsor ad for.  That is an amazing skill.

The original Pulse, or Kairo as it says on my DVD cover was the first and actually only horror movie I've stopped watching because I couldn't take it any more at that moment.
It's not a fantastic movie I don't think, but it has some of the most unsettling scenes and atmosphere I've ever come across.
As with all horror movies, I make sure to only watch them at night, when I'm alone, otherwise what's the point really, and I just remember getting so freaked out in my empty apartment that I just had to turn it off, I did finish watching it the next night, but damn, I don't quite know why that movie affected me so much.

I Need the companies that sponsor Mista GG to know that I have never skipped his ad songs and I always end up interested in the product by the end of the songs, run this man his money cause he’s hella convincing

"What fucking movie was I thinking about?" THANK YOU. My brain literally meshed all those films into one film too. Ultimately it feels like it doesn't matter which of them I'll watch...I'll get the same mediocre experience. Edit: I can't wait until Talk to Me is streaming somewhere I really want to Watch Party it on my streaming channel!

8:33 as a current jumgle miss viewer: yes...yes you do...quite often, in fact.😂

I thought it was an interesting concept, but I didn't know at the time that Pulse 2006 was a remake. I watched the original and thought it was vastly better, in retrospect. The practical effects made the ghosts feel more real. I also appreciate the original's dedication to atmosphere over cheap, flimsy jumpscares. The horror of Kairo (or Pulse, in English) lies in the cerebral conception of what happens when we die. Kiyoshi Kurosawa didn't need to make the ghosts kill anyone, he just made the ghosts creepy in presentation alone. The ghosts of Kairo didn't come through to kill anyone, they simply came through the internet to not be alone. It's a melancholy horror film that touches on the existential dread many of us have about death and how fleeting life really is. Kairo is a horror-drama that encourages everyone watching to treasure life and everyone in it. Pulse 2006, on the other hand, missed the point entirely. It's just jumpscares galore. At least Insidious earned its jumpscares.
