When I started out as a stained glass artist 42 years ago, I would have loved to have videos like this to learn from, but I had to learn by making mistakes and through a lot of practice. Thank you, Derek, for the video; I know it will be helpful to many.

Beautifully narrated and a beautiful result,

Loved this video!  I think it’s the best one I’ve seen, and what a wonderful restoration!  Please continue to bring us along on your projects.  Thanks for going to the trouble to bring us this content.

Hi Derek, I could sit and watch you all day. I am fascinated by the amount of skill and talent you possess. Every video I watch helps me get better with my skills and projects.😊

The thought of someone vandalizing a stained-glass panel is baffling to me. It literally hurts a little. You know I am a little partial to ASMR 😋 but I thoroughly enjoyed you speaking through the process.

Absolutely excellent video, thank you. Repair, restoration, up-cycling, repurposing & conservation, are my favourite creativities, particularly Victorian artefacts. Documenting the process, is really important, both for others to learn from & how we may learn to re-evaluate our own processes. This video is soul nourishing 👍

Every video of yours I watch I learn more about this beautiful artform. Your are a true inspiration Derek.

Bravo Derek ! At 58, I'll be starting a Stained Glass course in Paris hoping to learn this art & technics. Your videos are wonderful and very well made. You managed to transfer your passion for Stained Glass. Merci infiniment.

Thank you!

This is such a great video. I am repairing a small cabinet window and this has so much helpful information!

Beautiful skillful work! Thank you! <3

I have a horror story…decades ago where I live in Inverness, an old building had been taken over and was being renovated. It had an enormous stained glass window at the top of a large stairway, the window was in perfect condition. A friend noticed the window and was told by the construction workers it was to be taken out, smashed up and replaced. My friend begged them to wait for a few hours so he could arrange to take the window himself……..when he returned with a van the window was smashed into pieces.

Really enjoyed the video. Have been interested in stained glass and glass from age 13. Could cut my own glass, from 13 including Laminated and wired. Started out on 3mm greenhouse glass!
Visited Dinham House in Ludlow in the early 90's and in the basement various trades and sellers. There was a chap doing stained Glass. John Young. He used to sell me lead, glass, tallow candle etc and charge me a £5 as liked that I was interested in it. Made mirrors for family for Christmas with stained glass border.
Dinham House was sold to Clearview Stoves and John moved to another premises and met another glass artist who did the painting for him. He sadly had a very bad accident fitting a stained glass window on a barn conversion and broke his Back or Neck.
We moved away from the are when I was 15. Presume he retired. Had a friend of my Dad's who had an amazing Victorian painted circle of something with red border in flashed glass with the air bubbles. I restored it and made it square by adding 3mm clear glass from a 30's leaded light and fitted it to her bespoke timber van door behind a piece of 6.4mm laminated plus timber spacer to protect it from vandals.
To this day I do the odd panels for family. Just a hobby. Have bought about 18 stained glass 1930-40's bay windows and one Victorian with around 40 clear roundels and small square panels for £25. Bought for the roundels and old glass squares. Really love some of the old glass patterns. James.

I just bought an old window that needs some restoration work. Ive been wanting to get into stained glass for awhile. I may use this as the opportunity to.

Thank you Derek , it is wonderfull to see traditional glass work. At first it almost looked like one of my grandfather's windows,  but based on you accent and the masonry of the church I'm assuming  you are in Britain.  My grandfather was Rudolf Benz of Newton New Jersey USA , I grew up in his studio and putted many a window in my youth exactly as you have 😊  He learned his craft in Hamburg Germany at 14 . He taught me to actually mix his own pigments  ( metal oxides ,powdered glass et.) We search all over for his windows,  I would love to get intouch with you perhaps.  We made a website of what works we know of and are trying to expand the library. You could contact me through there if you have time, THANK YOU     Keep up the craft 😊

Excelente tutorial de la forma tradicional de restaurar.
Ese proceso lo hago digitalmente partiendo de una fotografía y dibujando encima de la foto en la aplicación Affinity Designer.

Derek, could you please make a video describing how you deal with glass that has become unseated from the lead, after you've soldered the first side? I cannot seem to avoid this problem :( Thank you!

I live in a small little town that has been here since 1768. There are many old churches that have broken stained glass. I work at a hardware store where the church foreman was asking for help for his churches windows. I help my father decades ago with his new work. I'm now 66. Is this something I should help out with or are there unseen hassles. I know I don't have a kiln and other paint and material. But I have the tools.
