When I sold my 2CV after 20 years I gave it one last drive on and on that sad journey I passed a DB5, the driver of which gave me a “thumbs up”! Those who know about cars know what a great, clever car, they are! Great video…

Well, to be fair. The 2CV comes from the land that gave us Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermès, Dior, Saint Laurent, Louboutin.
It had it in for your shirt from the start.
Addendum (31.07): to be clear, I have nothing against your shirt(s) especially if they have a sentimental value.

This morning I took my 2cv out of the garage and as soon as I pulled out someone smiled and said : "What a nice car". Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. :)

@philwilliams6768 2 months ago

I've got an almost identical one but with the original orange seats. Cheap to keep, easy to maintain and puts a smile on everyone's face. A great intro in to classic car ownership.

I would have said the Holy Trinity was 2CV , Beetle and OG Mini.

I have owned all 3 😊

Forget about the shirt - instead of idling around in this magnificent sports car I would have loved to to see some real driving dynamics. You accelerate with all possible force to 70mph and you never ever give up that speed. Not for corners, villages, cyclists, pedestrians, pets or whatever. I did so and crashed into a Peugeot 306 which decided to turn in my direction the moment I was overtaking it. I completely destroyed the back then brand new Peugeot, left the crying owner sitting on the curb and a slightly irritated police and drove home with the 2cv which was easy to fix replacing the front wheel and suspension arm on that side and getting some dents removed. Special Feature: the passenger side door handle cut the whole side of the Peugeot like a tin can and was not even scratched.. a true hero that car. I then „upgraded“ to a Mini which is fun but can catapult off the road quite quickly if you drive it the same way you trained on the 2CV..

The suspension IS interconnected - front-to-rear, independently on each side. When a front wheel moves up, it PULLS on a single longitudinally-mounted coil spring, the other end of which is attached to the rear wheel, thus tending to force the rear wheel DOWN. A form of self-levelling. Handles like a car from 1948 eh? Well you try as hard as you like to roll it, while travelling forwards: You won't manage it. Unlike the original A-class from esteemed manufacturer Mercedes.

I’ve seen them racing at Cadwell. You’d think they’d be really slow, but actually they are much, much slower than that

@TDCflyer 2 months ago

In my youth I had two of them - I immediately remembered the one flaw no one at Citroen ever bothered to eliminate: That door lock. It cost me several shirts and pairs of pants.
But I still loved those cars, they were a riot to drive.

@panman1964 2 months ago

Next you want to go 2CV racing. It’s hilarious.

Everyone who considers themselves a car guy/gal should drive a 2CV around for a few days. Fantastic cars, unlike anything else.

Traversing Canada and USA in my Charleston in 1982/83 I got pulled over by police 5 times. Halifax, the Smokey Mts, New Orleans, Austin & San Francisco.
Never booked.
Mostly out of curiosity.
In Halifax the RCMP Officer invited me home for clam chowder dinner and I stayed the night in the guest room.

In New Orleans the policeman wanted a 2CV photo of the French classic in the French Quarter.

In Austin I had two students standing in the rear with the car swaying to and fro.

After being pulled up on the freeway into San Francisco I heard a car beeping from the underpass. It was a very rare DS in California. I pulled off the next exit and the guy gave me the contact details for two gay brothers that had the only 2CV workshop on the West Coast. The 2CV got a service including new brake pads, and I got 2 weeks free accommodation...

More smile per mile. Especially in the USA.

I bought the identical 2CV6 — even down to the colour — with grey cloth interior, (and a roof rack, which I sold!) back in 1989. PCG 486T. Apart from needing a clutch in 1991, it gave not a moment’s trouble. My kid sis insisted that it be her wedding car in July 1990, roof back and adorned with white wedding-car ribbonage! I still have the photos.

We kept it as the school-run car for four years, until it was replaced by a 1988 BX DTR Turbo estate.

Bloody brilliant little shed, with charm in spades…

Nothing puts a smile on my face like the sound of the air cooled twin of a 2CV.

@arkeys74 2 months ago

Was the choke on when you stopped to close the window? That was a heftily high idle 😃

Love the 2CV, such a fun car to drive 😉👍

In 1974, in the the dead of winter, I found myself in Tehran looking for a ride to Europe. For a nomimal fee, less than the cost of public transport, I thought it would be cool to accept an offer from the French owner of 2CV. It was cool, but only because the heater, if there even was one, didn't work and the temperature in eastern Turkey was at least minus 20 degrees Celsius. As well, the driver, a self-styled rally champion, managed to slide off the road. Thankfully a dozen or so locals appeared from out of nowhere accompanied by armed militia members and offered to help, for cash. When we declined, they not only prevented us from pushing the car back on the road but also went through the car and stole some of our belongings. Thankfully we were able to escape but not before the petrol cap was removed and flung off a cliff and many stones thrown in our direction. We made it to the next town and awoke to hoar frost on the hotel windows an inch thick and a 2CV that wouldn't start. In short, my memories of that French automobile abomination would be much better if I had only suffered a torn favourite shirt.

They are amazing especially going down hill with 6 inside and smoke bellowing from the brakes! So relieved we made it down....

Loved the "For Your Eyes Only" model. Can't imagine a car maker selling a model with fake bullet holes in it now😂 Saw the film in France, everyone cheered when the 2CV appeared 😀
