I was 14 years old and my mom wanted to go see this movie. She insisted we go. I grumbled, didn't want to be seen with any parentals at a movie theater, but she dragged me out the door. She adored Robert Redford. I'm glad we went because it's one of those good mom memories that sticks with you forever. The whole theater gave a roaring standing ovation after Roy hit that ball. I have never personally seen that happen in a movie theater since that night. All we talked about was how great of a movie it was. How good of a time we had together. RIP mom. Thinking of you.

The empty chair at the end.  What an epic performance of cinema.

The scene ends perfectly with the empty seat...

IMHO the most memorable scene is when Redford gives back the bribe to Robert Prosky and Prosky says “I thought I could rely on your honor,Hobbs.” And Redford replies “You’re about to.”
If there is a better baseball movie, I can’t think of it.

Robert Duvall is a phenomenal actor, easy to forget his performance in this movie, but he had a tremendous career.

And then when I walked down the street people would have looked and they would've said, 'There goes Shohei Ohtani, the best there ever was in the game.

Greatest Baseball Movie !!  many people didn't realize that Redford played Minor League baseball .... That's why he look like he knew what he was doing!!  RIP Robert Redford.

This movie is just magic.  I love it so.  That pitching motion is so bad...but we suspend what we know because the movie is so pure.  We imagine a perfect pitch.  (Not sure who's motion is more comical...this one from Hobbs or the one from Harris in Major League).  Both are so awful but I love them both...so funny.

Such a great movie. RIP Mr. Redford.

The magic is in the music. Thank you, Randy.

You know, I don't like baseball.  But I like movies about baseball. This movie, "Bull Durham" and "Field of Dreams" are incredible. Also, "A League of Their Own".....

The amount of acting talent in this scene is incredible!

This is probably my favorite scene in the movie.

This movie was so good it almost made baseball seem interesting.

Barry Levinson’s finest hour based on a novel by Bernard Malamud. A masterpiece of casting starting with Wilford Brimley, Richard Farnsworth and Robert Prosky. Malamud’s dark ending never made it to the screen. Instead, Levinson’s Roy Hobbs is a hero who finally achieved fame.

So much hero mythology in this movie. One of the best baseball movies ever.

He has the most beautiful, PERFECT pitching windup I have ever seen. I have watched his pitching and hitting scenes over and over and over. I guess I will be replaying them for the rest of my life. He was perfect. The director said it took many, many takes to get the shot where he misses some hits, because Redford's muscle memory was so perfect that he couldn't help but hit the ball  Every. Single. Time.  Sublimely acted, sublimely shot.

Hold on already, I am just learning this game, it aint cricket brother

Duvall can do more with a head tilt than most actors with a page of dialogue.

The cut to Mercy, now down in the stands. Having the catcher to the side instead of behind the plate. Mercy's look of slight recognition. The slow-mo when it counts the most. The ball caught in the net, instead of spoiling it with a catcher's glove and his reaction covered with a facemask. The quick shot of the catcher. Then back to the long look from the catcher, who really knows what he saw. Then Mercy gone. Perfect.
