The way Rutger Hauer played Batty was amazing. His voice, his expressions, his movements; everything was perfect. He made Batty sympathetic, intimate and terrifying all at once.

Rutger Hauer came up with the idea of the dove being released. In his earlier movie "Turkish Delight" he releases a dove on the shore of the ocean in honor of his wife who died of a brain tumor. It was something that had meaning for him.  Without him, it would have been a very different movie.

Banger of a video.

Interesting fact, in the book sequel written by KW Jeter, we learn that replicants are based off of human host.  Roy Batty(human) has a mental defect where he doesn't feel fear.  So when Nexus Roy understands that he's going to die, he feels fear for the first time, and this becomes a slave to death

Roy Batty and his Replicant crew would be an awesome prequel film. Call it Nexus 6.

Roy’s emotional growth spans boyishness to wisened old man in the matter of days, masterfully portrayed by Rutger Hauer with a naive rawness
His transformation from a hardened soldier who most likely was attachment avoidant due to horrific casualty rates from direct conflict or programmed senescence to chaotic attachment to mature style
These shifts were brought about by the unique associations he made with the five other renegade replicants
Roy is comically petulant when Sebastian awkwardly interrupts a moment of affection with Priss, and is dumbstruck with grief with the deaths of Zuben and Iggy
In the confrontation with Tyrell, Roy alternates pleading with an “uncaring” parent - abandonment issues coming into focus - to the rage of “enslaved” angel who would rather see the death of his god than exist under its injustice
Finally, Roy plays twisted cat and mouse with Deckard in the climatic duel while at the same time coming to terms of absolute death and an apotheosis of meaning of life’s absurdity
In the end, Roy achieves as much divinity a “human” can - to see life is something bigger than oneself

“Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it? That's what it is to be a slave.”

Tears in the Rain
A great title of a book.
Sums up our life experiences also.

Rutger Hauer has said that he personally rewrote the lines of Batty's pre-death soliloquy, the day or night before the scene was to be filmed.
It was he who imagined the Tanhauser Gate, and the phrase, "tears in rain."

This was a well researched and interesting video essay, looking forward to more like it.

Holy smokes, this man Blade Runners

Rutger Hauer himself wrote Batty's final speech, Not David Peoples or Hampton Fancher. The original script speech was much longer and clunky and it unnecessarily lengthened the scene so Hauer intuitively came up with the shorter and tauter version himself.

Fun Fact: Brian Fury of Tekken, is based off of Roy Batty.

He seen things you people wouldn't believe...
Very good video btw.
Also have you tried Syndicate games? Both the old isometric ones and the fps reboot from 2012 I recommend ;)
1:20 Ok nvm :D Cheers

3:09 Iggy and Roy. I see what they did there.

4:21 Cash, Plissken, O'Neil, MacReady, T600-101. I see what they did there. They misspelled "MacReady," though.

Replaced. On steam 🎉
