Condolences to Chris and his family 🙏

I am kid from the 80es in Germany, when we got our driving licenses in the 2000s everybody got a Golf mk2 (well except you only got a Polo). We all wanted a GTI, but no one actually had one. Please make this baby perfect, it's an icon!

Ben, We used to race these way back when. Had dozens of them! The Bosch fuel injection system is actually a very simple, extremely reliable system. I don't know if anyone has mentioned in the comments on the Audi and now this GTI but we found that every engine we worked on or that we collected from parts cars had very similar symptoms to what you are experiencing on both the Audi and the GTI. Eventually we found that the absolute first thing we had to do was to replace the "Donut" seals that held the injectors in their mounting seats. Invariably they were hard, often cracked and caused all manner of cylinder mixture issues. It only takes a few minutes and considering the age of these projects I'm positive these "Donuts" have failed long ago! While you're at it I would suggest that you pull all four injectors (Leaving them connected to the fuel lines) and put each in an identical  container. Cans or jars are good here but secure them because the fuel sprays with some force!  Remove the air intake boot from the Bosch unit, turn on your fuel pump and use a magnet on the bolt in the middle of the plate and lift it for ten seconds or so. Each injector should supply the same amount of fuel. It's a very simple check on these older mechanical systems. I saw that you had people with experience with these systems offering advice on both videos but unless I missed them I didn't see a comment about these. Bosch had great technical manuals on these systems that explained them well. I haven't used them in years but I still have a drawer in one of my boxes dedicated to these Bosch CIS systems. Here in the US they were known as the "Continuous Injection System" in Europe known as the "K-Jetronic". Thanks Ben for allowing me to reminisce...

I have 34 degree heat, I have a cold cold beer and I'm sat on the apartment balcony in Cyprus watching Tasty Classics........ Bliss 😊

This is one of those channels that deserves way more views than it gets 👌

The MK.2 Golf GTI is my dream car. I have always loved this Golf I've always wanted to own one but they have always been out of my reach. Thanks for saving this one Ben you're a total legend

Old towing trick, put some plastic tea trays under the locked up tires to help it slide onto your trailer.

i trade cars since 15 years, and used only once autodoc here in Germany. i took four weeks to deliver parts, some parts were missing, i called 5 times, emails, everything. i will never buy there again. love your channel and videos, i do the same here in Germany with 80s 90s bmws. good luck with your channel and your company❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉

Condolences to Chris and his family. I grew up with this age VW. My dad had the MK1 and MK2 Jetta. Amazing cars that stood the test of time.

I don't watch Matt Armstrong videos, I do watch yours though, I find them rather relaxing, until a car just refuses to start for ages, then I feel your pain ;)

I'm glad the golf landed in the right hands condolences to Chris and his family you can tell he cherished that golf also don't see much of dickie anymore

The filter assembly contains the fuel pressure regulator , all wil be well when the new pump and orignal system is installed

Absolutely fantastic! Had 11 mk2 golfs. They’re great little cars.
One thing that might be the issue is the k-jet needs 5 bar fuel pressure to run properly. Recon she’ll be all good when you get the right pump in 👌
When you’re doing the gear linkage, you can buy a little gear stick alignment tool for pennies, makes life much easier when setting it up.

38 minutes in and you’ve had a pop at Jonny Smith & Matt Armstrong 😂😂. Love your absolute euphoria when a new left for dead barks off 👍👍👍. Tasty classics is the only YouTube channel that’s makes me laugh out loud - cheers Ben 👍👍

FUCK YES! This is beautiful. I clicked so quick. I love the Golf. MY first car was a 1989 MK1 1.8L convertible, then I got a 1983 MK1 GTI with a 2L 16v 9a swapped in, then picked up a 1.1 1988 MK2, then a 1992 1.3 MK2 and now a 2016 MK7 Gti.

I’m only a few minutes through the video and I can tell it’s off to a good start… those early mouldings are still present (rocking horse poo) - the wind deflector on the wiper blade (also rocking horse poo) and P6000’s means somebody really did love this car at some point. I think I remember seeing this car as I used to work in Blackpool. I also have a 1985 GTI, and I moved to Germany with it 7 years ago  😊

I haven't watched the video beyond 3.30 yet, but I do remember these Golf's being very well wax injected at the factory inside doors, box sections, and tailgate. They often had runs of wax visible on the exterior paintwork in hot weather as the wax melted and ran out of drain holes. So, I reckon the body and chassis will be as good as new. How the mechanicals go is another story, but these were great drivers cars, the best of the best Golf's to be honest. This was VW's finest hour IMHO.  Love to see you in this on a track day.

I had a Volkswagen Jetta GLI from this same era. I still miss it! Thanks for sharing and yes, sorry for the original owner's passing. 😎

Gonna have to start calling you Ben 'removes half the fuel system then wonders why it wont run properly' Molesworth are we. 😉😂

Just want to let you know that regarding welding.  When you turn your head to the side to avoid arc eye you’re actually more prone to damaging your eyes when the UV hits the side of your eyes.  Its all about “ cones and rods” in the make up of the eye.  If you’re not using a helmet you are better off scrunching your eyes up and keeping your head in front of the weld area.  Love the videos btw.
