Last year I bought a 2x12 after years of playing 4x10, 1x15 or even both because neither of them was able to get a likeable sound to me. I‘m very happy with my new cab.

I am using a combo 1x15 and a 1x15 cab, with a 5 string tuned to a low A. I've thought about getting a combo 2x10 to use with my 1x15, but I might get an amp first to have more options for cabs in the future.

I have mine triamped, 1x15 sub, 2x12 clean/growl, 2x10 for punchy highs. Entire spectrum covered and nothing is lost in the mix. Each cab weighs about 50lbs and is easily moved with a small furniture dolly and hand truck.

Best sound (at least for funk) I have is my Bugera / Behringer cab 410 with a class d top (Ashown little giant).
My Carvin 212 also sound terrific! And its so light. Underrated brand?
It generally seems like 4 ohm cabinets is the way to go, as 8 ohm does not get the best out of the amp (?)

My first bass rig was a Peavey miniMEGA 1000W Amp with a rather old but high-end 4x10" cab. The cab is very heavy so I only played it for one gig. I don't really need so much volume on the stage. So this cab stays in the rehearsal room and got replaced by a lightweight Phil Jones C4 Piranha 4x5" cab. About half the max volume for a quarter of the weight. Next, I replaced the overpowered Peavey with a small Warwick Gnome amp. The PJB cab isn't as punchy as the 4x10" but has very nice mids, so hearing my bass on stage was never a problem. But then I got a five-string bass and the PJB cab wasn't quite enough for low B. So I got a MarkBass MB58R 102 PURE 2x10" cab that weighs only 10 kg. I was surprised that I didn't like the 12" cabs. Played a few gigs with that rig and I am really happy with the result.
Btw the German bassist Frank Itt plays GR Bass 2x10" cabs that only weigh 7 kg. For club gigs without P.A. he brings two of them. These cabs are made with carbon fibre. A friend has the 1x10" cab at 4,5 kg. At the GR Bass booth at Guitar Summit 2024 they even had a 8x10" cab at 22,5 kg and a max power of 1600W! 😂

The cab is the piece of equipment that decides your tone/sound, even the mic can effect the overall sound, i use a 1 x 15" 300w min cab with no tweeter, to many phase issues, it uses a small "whizzer" cone attached to the dust cap that gives a frequency response of 32hz - 14Khz, perfect for 4 & 5 string bass's, i find 4 x 10"s to phasey & if guitarists use 12" speakers should bass players not use at least 12"'s & 15"'s ? I use 1 x 12"'s & 1 x 15"'s, i use normally a single 15" cab, if smaller & bass sensitive venues i will use 1 or 2 12" cabs or a 1 x 15" cab, i use a Broughton HPF/LPF pedal (75ohm output, 9v - 24v, used at 18v) in my bass amps effects loop to control the bass roll off & rid my cab of excess treble noise & hiss, HPF 25hz - 190hz, LPF 330hz - 20Khz...good stuff....

Two 4x10 MarkBass cabs work perfectly for Ska/2tone/rock/punk and are very lightweight. No need to struggle loading anywhere with a massive 8x10 cab, completely unnecessary.
