I found this exact same guitar ('08) and bought it for a ridiculous price. Cleaned the fretboard using a little lighter fluid then polished it up a bit with some wood cabinet cleaner, adjusted the truss rod, cleaned the volume and ton knobs with a tooth brush, opened it up for an inspection and found it clean as a whistle, a little 'best in class' car wax on the body, a little graphite in the nut (pencil) and new strings. Used my wife's emeroy board on some of the fret ends, but very little work required, set the intonation. This guitar is amazing. I wouldn't sell it for less than $400. Just a wonderfully sounding and playing guitar. (All this before I saw this video. Great job on your video! Thanks for confirming what I did. ).
Lovely setup and playing! I enjoy hearing guitars without distortion to determine if I will like them or not so your video was great. I just picked up this exact model second hand at a local guitar shop. I cannot believe how nice it is. I was just picking it up as a mod platform then started to realize it's actually just as nice to play as my newer MiM player strat and Tele. For anyone wondering, I have a 2017 and 2019 player tele and strat. The nuts are pretty much identical between the squier SE and the modern MiM, neck radius identical, woods look nearly identical, the fretboard and neck is almost identical (slightly better fret edges on the MiM but it doesn't pay any different), all medium jumbo frets. I did polished the frets, cleaned and oiled everything, put new strings on it and setup intonation. I'm blown away at how nice it is to play for almost nothing invested. Just goes to show even in 2021 with high prices, if you don't care about the name on the head stock you can really get an amazing playable guitar. The only thing I'll probably change out is the pickups, I really like the neck -> middle positions on the SE but I don't like the bridge pickup much. That being said, it's dead simple to drop in some $40 Alnicos if I want them.
Oh my god! I've had this exact strat for nearly 15 years and I've never been able to find a tremolo arm that fits. Just ordered one from the Fender website! Fingers crossed...
Bought three of these (separately) about fifteen years ago, on ebay. I believe they were for the European market only. One the main reasons I like these guitars is the solidity, and the quality feel. Just rediscovered them, a quick fret polish and fretboard clean, and like new. As you say the pickups are hot, of course everything can be swapped out, which can be the famous point. Another very good cheap guitar is the old Squier Bullet, in particular 2009 and 10. When I last played it, I thought, what more do you need than this? Of course, unfortunately, we always do.
