Your Surname Reveals If Your Ancestors Were Norman

What if your surname revealed a Norman origin you never suspected?

Some French surnames still bear traces of Vikings, knights, lords, and families who came from Normandy. Anquetil, Toustain, Turgot, Osmond, Thouroude, Renouf, Angot, Héroult, Lefebvre, Levasseur, Langlois, Duval, Delamare, Beaumont, Harcourt, Tancarville... Behind these surnames often lies a history spanning centuries.

In this video, we will discover how Norman surnames can tell the story of your ancestors: their geographical origins, their professions, their social status, their migrations, and sometimes even their Scandinavian heritage.

You will learn, among other things, how Vikings from Scandinavia played a role in the birth of Normandy, how Rollo and the Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte changed the region's history, and how certain Nordic first names gradually evolved into French surnames.

But the story doesn't end there.

We will also look at why certain French surnames are linked to Normandy, the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, and prominent Norman families. We will also follow the incredible journey of the Normans who ventured as far as Southern Italy and Sicily.

And above all, we will see how to research the origin of your surname and why the geographical distribution of a family name can provide a valuable clue for your genealogy.
