It’s simple — ignore them. These are toxic people that are hurtful and insecure in their own skin. They are not worth your time or energy.

I've been dressing well for many years. Never once have I received a negative comment or sarcastic attitude about my style. In fact, the response is always positive. Don't let other's insecurities or lack of manners influence your feelings. Pay no attention. Don't respond. Be classy and stoic. Shine on. Cheers 😎

The tech bros - the millionaires and billionaires helped give the wrong image.

I always answer any genuine compliment with a sincere "thank you" and i never try to correct them if they are wrong.  The otherday I was wearing a pair of chinos, an OCBD, dress shoes and an odd tweed sports jacket.  A young waitress said "I like your SUIT".  I just said than you and smiled.  She has no clue hat a suit is, but it wasn't the time to educate her.

Once my my colleague had a birthday and so I came to work dressed up more than usual. The very same colleague commented on my attire asking if I am going for a interview for a senior position at my workplace. I know he meant well, more like a sincere jest since he is always very polite and that he isn't above dressing nicely himself. So I just responded to him that it is because today is a special day. He was very surprised when we later congratulated him to his birthday as he wasn't aware we knew about it. A well-dressed man should always also be well-mannered, otherwise it is only a fake facade.

I am know for dressing well at work. One time, I was helping teach a class and I heard a couple people talking and one asked, "Why is he dressed like that?" and the other person replied, "Oh, that's Kevin. He's always dressed up." It's because of channels like this that help me learn the best way to dress well.

Hi Ash. Just back home in Norway after three wonderful days in London. The trip was very much inspired by your trips to the city. So we visited the fabulous shops of Jermyn St - Floris, Taylors of Old Bond St etc. Then through the Arcades. A Vesper at Dukes Bar, dinner at the Original Ivy etc. One of the evenings we went to the Old Cheshire Cheese in Fleet St, I was wearing a red and goldish blazer, white shirt and yellow paisley style silk scarf. Whilst in the pub I had three Aussies compliment me on my appearance - very dapper etc. They asked was it a special occasion - I thought for a couple of seconds and replied, yes its Monday! They loved the come back. Next stop that night was Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club, on leaving I was again complimented on my dress by the Manager of the club. To top it all the black cab driver that took us to the hotel said he immediately spotted me in the street when I hailed him because on my stylish look. We then exchanged stories about my vintage yellow silk scarf - he had one just like it that his Father had given to him. So three compliments in one evening - boy did I feel good. The next day we went to the cigar lounge in the Bulgari Hotel to sample a H.Upton cuban cigar. What a trip and thanks to your advice over the years. Toodle pip, Andrew.

Iv always find the best response to “who you trying to impress” is to jokingly reply “this is all for you my friend” 😂 usually gets a laugh.

For every negative comment I have received for dressing well, I have received dozens of compliments.  Most people appreciate a well-turned-out man, but I take both compliments and criticism regarding dress with a grain of salt.  I dress as well as I am able as a sign of respect for myself and those around me, and to honor the memory of my beloved mother and maternal grandparents who raised me to dress in a decent manner.

I have found that the best way to deal with persons making these comments is to say nothing, keep my facial expression calm and neutral, and look .them steadily in the eye.  In my experience, they become uncomfortable and unnerved by the lack of reaction, iinstead of defensive justification, anger or reproach they expected.

The advice I always give is no matter what the comment is, if something is said about the way you dress always treat is a a genuine compliment, thank them for noticing and for their approval. Nine times out of ten they will switch to admitting you do actually look great, and for the rare occasion they don't you make they look silly by making it clear they noticed how much better them them you look, so they soon shut up.

I’ve noticed that whenever I wear my light brown/ rust color sports jacket with chinos, OCBD, and chocolate Chelsea boots I always get attention and better service. I’m grateful now when I receive the “sir” salutation and always address men older than I the same.

It totally depends on your audience.  Usually the people who would give you a negative comment for doing something well are not worth spending your time on.

The US is done, cooked, with fork on it. Dressing well is like wearing a costume, I still show up to my college campus, bar, and restaurants well dressed and who ever got a problem I’ll leave a nice mirror shine in their eye 🤜🏽

It is sad that people would rather snide at a well dressed gentleman than come out of their comfort zone and join him. Keep presenting yourselves with class gentlemen. We have surely hit the floor in terms of standards of dress. The only way is up!

I’ve had a few mixed remarks from random people in the street: “Where’s your top hat?”, “Do you work at the stock exchange?”, “Hey, mister business class!” - All just for wearing a simple business suit (or suit separates) and tie. I can feel a bit self-conscious about it sometimes, but when it comes down to it, these moments just make me laugh. On the other hand, I’ve also got compliments in the street, in shops and also at work. So, I guess it evens out in the end. Keep up the good work, Ash! Greetings from Copenhagen.

Ash, in my job the people I work with don’t really get why I’m dressing well. Being 56, I’m getting comments like they think I’m having a mid-life crisis lol. I’m not, and my wife is very supportive of my efforts and is even starting to do similarly. She watches many of your videos and some others I follow with me and is intrigued. So my own Sartorial journey is truly for me and who I am and who I want to be as I enter the next phase of my life. It’s not just dressing, it’s in all aspects. It’s how I feel and honestly it fit me unlike anything I’ve done before. I’m happier, I’m more relaxed and I simply enjoy moments more- especially with everything going on in my country. I watch the news, I keep current, but I stopped getting myself nutty about things I can’t control. I must thank you for that Ash. You and a few others here have truly helped me and especially your advice I’ve found extremely useful.

I never got called out for being well-dressed, even in places where dressing up is uncommon for men, or even frowned upon (you know, because it's considered a sign of homosexuality).
I think the vast majority of these remarks are either at best a funny and indirect way to compliment you (direct compliments sometimes can be misinterpreted), or at worst just manifestations of surprise by people that got caught off guard by your ensemble, as if they were afraid of being underdressed for the situation, with no malicious intent.
To me it seems like lots of people interpret these remarks in a negative light that doesn't necessarily exists.

I wouldn't say I have received a negative comment however I have often felt over dressed and self conscious
