Not trash, just a new Linux node.

My largest concern is the OS getting more locked down. I'm supposed to be the administrator of my own machine, not Microsoft.

If Microsoft are that concerned with security why are they about to leave a billion PC's without updates?

"it's easy to make a car last forever, getting one to break down in 7 years is the trick"

I wish these mandatory "security features" actually protected me and my computer instead of stockholder profits.

I like that you used the phrase "forced obsolescence". Let truth be heard loud and clear.

An even bigger gripe is the requirement to login to a MS account.

The title should be "Your OLD PC is Now Trash and so is Microsoft"

The problem is not the TPM. You can get TPMs for old PCs, and some older machines even came with TPMs. The problem is the literal list of CPUs compatible with Windows 11, so if your machine older than 2018, no matter how fast or if it had a TPM, it's blocked

"Security" is often thrown around as the buzzword, whenever the tech industry want more control (and money) over the customer.

Fortunately I left for Linux after Windows 7 support ended, I must say that I have not looked back since. Torvalds said it best, “A computer is like air conditioning – it becomes useless when you open Windows.”

The main thing. Thank you for clearing up any doubts that I had about this subject.

I am keeping all of my functional computers  (4 ) and will convert them to Linux when necessary.

Windows with its data collection, mandatory remote account, and forced AI is now no better than malware. M$ has to be the world's shittiest company.

I love the TPM requirement: it gives me a simple way to make sure my PC won't downgrade to Windows 11 on its own.

Short answer: is not about security, it's about money.

As an Arch user i'm excited for a whole new flood of dirt cheap 'obsolete' Thinkpads to hit Ebay this fall.

No one is better at advertising Linux than Windows.

This is the best commentary out there, very nice explanation.

I resisted upgrading to Win11 for as long as possible.  Have a server at home that is less than 4 yrs old and plenty powerful enough to run anything all at once.  Last week, I woke to find that my computer had updated itself with out me.  The upgrade to Win11 then prevented MS Outlook 2010 from opening.  This is a purposeful intrusion upon consumers to upgrade in the name of "security".  All the while, it is really a ruse to force us to buy additional software and or hardware.  I can't be bothered with fixes, I just don't have the bandwidth any more - I've been using computers since '85.  This systematic replacement cycle is increasing and getting worse.  Thanks for the video.
