Mesopotamia, the “land between the rivers,” is the oldest civilization born at the mouth of two rivers: the Tigris and the Euphrates.

The Mesopotamians were the result of the union of different peoples: Sumerians, Babylonians, and Akkadians, who coexisted, succeeded one another, and intermingled in this multifaceted Near Eastern world.

All these peoples, once settled on the banks of the two rivers, left behind an archaeological heritage of inestimable value.

How were they able to thrive in such a hostile environment?
