Join me on my quick, last-minute visit to Lisbon, where I travelled on a cable car, ate and drank loads (often cheaply) before experiencing chaos in Lisbon’s woefully organised airport.

The Teleférico do Parque das Nações (AKA the cable car) was built for the Expo ’98 World Exposition; it runs for 1,230 meters from the Torre Vasco da Gama to the Oceanarium.

The Vasco da Gama Bridge in Lisbon is 17.2 kilometres (10.7 miles) long and crosses the Tagus River. It’s the longest bridge in the European Union, and only the Crimean Bridge is longer.

The gambling expo, ‘SBC Summit ’, takes place in Lisbon every year. It is for members of the gambling industry, and it is not open to the public. And so, head elsewhere for your free tattoos!

The restaurant where we never got served after ordering both drinks and food is the River Lounge Restaurant & Bar in the five-star Myriad by SANA Hotel.

Portugal Resident, an English-language weekly newspaper published in Portugal, recently reported that “Lisbon Airport has long been criticised for congestion, lengthy queues and operating beyond its intended capacity.”

Its story also stated, “Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport has been ranked among the world’s worst airports in the latest AirHelp Score 2026,” and added that the annual study “assessed 279 airports across 76 countries, measuring on-time performance, passenger satisfaction and airport facilities. Lisbon placed 274th out of 279 airports worldwide!”
