What I - as a german - like is that Brad Pitt speaks german like an american would who actually learned german but never fully lost his accent. He does not sound like an actor trying to emulate the sound of the german language (like Jeremy Davies did in Saving Privat Ryan), he actually spoke german with all the errors you would do as a non-native speaker. Fury is pretty much the only american war movie where I do not cringe hearing someone speaking german (the actor not being a german).

Thanks for having me on the show Jared! (and for giving me an excuse to yap about Fury 😂)

Oddball from Kelly's Heroes wouldn't like War Daddy and the Fury tank crew. Too many negative waves would bring him down, baby.

I think one of the reasons the tiger charges in a straight line is because the tank museum requested the tank not go on actual terrain and risk damage so the film crew built a track that they covered. For some reason they only made it a straight road.

There's a great comedy skit about Fury done by Squire and at the end of the final battle the German commander says "Three hundred men for one tank, yeah we can definitely afford that kind of attrition."

There are tons of deleted scenes that show the other guys’ growing acceptance of Norman. It seems a little sudden at the end without them.

My take on Fury has been that while it is rather awful as far as historical accuracy and tactics, it really captures the emotional feel of that period of the war. Definitely worth watching.

33:27 regarding the “final stand” scene that is rightfully critiqued by many… there is a deleted scene that, if included, would have added so much more to the story and made this scene more understandable. The scene is following the house scene where Norman’s girl gets killed. On the ride from the town, war daddy explains to Norman where he got his burns. It’s assumed they’re from prior battles as the crew had been through a lot, but it is revealed that the burns were sustained before the war when he caused a car accident, killing his girlfriend/fiance and others. In his court hearing, his punishment was to “join the army and go die for his country,” or something to that extent. That really explains why he wouldn’t leave the tank even though staying meant certain death. Although the trope of “it’s home” still tracks to his gritty, prideful character, him being ashamed for his pre war act and wanting to atone for it completely makes the decision to stay and die a lot more palatable, and including that scene would have added another great layer of character development for him and why he acts the way he does.

The deleted scene with Norman and war daddy with the woman explains so much I wish they had kept it in you will see this movie a different way and crazier war. 😊

Ah yes, the "Pale Horse of Death" symbology. Hadn't made that connection the two times I watched Fury, (had to rewatch once I learned the Tiger wasn't CGI) - But now that you mention it, it's quite clear.
Anyways, just wanted to point out, unhelpfully, that according to the great Sir Terry Pratchett, the horse's name is "Binky"

Yall should be on a top 10 iconic duo list

14:39 that’s actually a 105mm howitzer. You can tell by the mantlet.

Suggesting Shermans burned more than other tanks is kinda silly when you consider the «un-killable» Tiger I had a flammable gasoline engine with ammo stowage on the sides and used hydraulics rather than batteries to power the turret

another ridiculous thing about the last battle was when the German officer tells his men they have very few panzerfuast so to use them wisely. But when Norman is on lookout and sees the German's marching, about every 5th German soldier is carrying a panzerfuast

My father was a tank commander (25th Cavalry, 4th armored, 3rd Army) pushing east from Bastogne in a tank destroyer. They hit a mine and everyone was instantly torn apart, my father being blown out the top with severe injuries and burns. I saw Fury hit the mine and just sit there - seems unlike the stories I was told. I think they depicted the exhaustion of everyone very well.

Something that was fantastic in the movie was the music by Steven Price. I have my own favorite playlist of it on Spotify and I still play it.

You guys should check out Stalingrad 1993. Great war film.

I am a desert. Strorm tanker. I had also been in germany before that. I was on M-60s, which had escape hatches. They drop off when you open them. They are really hard to put back on. I think the m-4 had similar operation. All my brother tankers love this movie. Out here at Ft. Bliss TX, 1AD is here. there is a museum tank at the entrance of the gunnery range, not really sure what model, not an M-4 but they named it Fury. Thays how much to movie means to all of us. Best job i ever had.

26:19 on that note, the Cheiftain did find a US document that told tankers that if they were outgunned from range and there was no fallback option, they were to charge forward. So while the scene in Fury is a bit ridiculous given that the Easy 8 is present, if it were just 75mm Shermans, then the doctrine would be somewhat plasuible. But yeah, it is a very Hollywood scene.

Find it hilarious that the most effective German trooper was the single HJ boy with Panzerfaust ambushing the leading lieutenant Sherman tank.

He sneaked into hidden positions until the Shermans came very well into point blank range for Panzerfaust (instead of blindly charging like the entire SS battalion), targeted the lead tank (unlike the Tiger), aimed at a good angle (which the town Pak gun failed to do so), and actually hit the tank in first shot (while all the Pak guns in the open field scene failed to do so).

Granted that Norman's hesitation did help his chance, but still this was compared to almost every other German enemies, who were practically shooting themselves in the foot, despite like, you know, being actually trained soldiers or even having bunch of medals in case of the Tiger commander. Almost like the boy was playing in some messed-up matchmaking where the rest of his team had no idea what they were doing.
