Why SHINee's Story Still Matters 15 Years Later

THE NOITE

SHINee never chased trends. They built their own world — from Replay to Lucifer, from View to Don’t Call Me. Every comeback, every solo, every stage was different, but it was always them. No masks. No shortcuts. Just five people choosing to be real, even when it hurt.

This isn't about nostalgia. It’s about everything SHINee stood for — trust, growth, grief, and showing the world that being different isn’t a flaw. It’s the point. Through all the highs, losses, and personal milestones, Taemin, Onew, Minho, Key, and the late Jonghyun built something unshakable.

Were you here for SHINee’s debut? If not — when did you become a Shawol?

@daraming129 1 year ago

For those of you who might be more interested in SHINee after watching this: Minho didn't only break the stereotypes about the face of the group by building an acting career (dramas, movies and theater), he's been writing songs for SHINee since the very beginning, being the second highest credited lyricist for SHINee after Jonghyun. He also has a solo career that includes a mini album ("Chase"), a full album ("Call Back") and several singles and stations ("I'm Home", "Heartbreak", "Stay for a Night").

One of the greatest mistakes you can do is putting SHINee in a box.
18 years in the industry, and fans are still being surprised by what SHINee manages to put out every comeback.

Found SHINee at debut, and I'm still here 17 years later. I've been their fan, longer than I haven't. I was 15 when I found them, and I'm 32 now. I've grown and changed with SHINee, and to me, there's truly no group like them.

There's something to be said about a group that's been around this long, and is still doing bigger & better. It's special, and it's their talent, strength & bond that has got them here.

I hope they continue on as long as they want to.

SHINee were the first ever Kpop group that I ever listened too, and when I found out that Jonghyun passed my heart literally broke into pieces 💔.... but even to this day i still support them no matter what. They are a legendary group and I will love them forever ❤❤

Shinee are a remarkable multitalented group each member processes distinctive personalities and unique talents, they debuted 17 years ago in 2008 they were more than a legendary successful group but had a strong bond as family

Thank you for this beautiful summary of not just an incredibly talented group, but five incredible artists, five unique and loveable individuals. As a Shawol of nearly 16 years, I am still in awe of how these boys - these men now, continue to perfect their craft, shape an industry, and remain so connected to each other. No rivalries, no jealousies. Taemin is their Ace, Jonghyun is lead vocal. Shinee is Five. Always. The Story of Light continues.

Shinee members don't interfere with each other's solo endeavours, but actively support. Their "Plagiarism Series" - solo albums with a unified theme of titles - is unique in an industry that feeds on drama and infighting. With the recent release of Poet/Artist, Shinee defied the impossible and gave us an OT5 comeback.

What I personally admire the most is that Shinee are generally good human beings. They remain humble, kind and respectful - to the industry, to the fans, and to other artists. It is, perhaps, this genuine humanity that reflects upon the fandom itself. Shinee World is known for being kind, polite and welcoming. We have our own quirks and shenanigans, but we have also grown up and matured as human beings alongside our Shinee members.

while america was obsessed with boy bands like 5sos, one direction and big time rush- i was into shinee at the ages of 11-12 and i will never forget that part of my childhood. they were so amazing. i was devastated when jonghyun passed, and im sure shortly after my kpop faze ceased to exist. i still revisit every now and then and they always bring me back.

I found them in 2014, while in a deep depression from the loss of my grandfather. The song "I'm With You" thier voices their energy saved me. And I have also found home. SHINee World is my home. I was able to see them as my first K-pop concert group as well. The energy from that night, I can still feel the energy from 2017 in 2025. This is the magic this group has, this is their gift and I love them and I am very grateful I found them. My Shinning SHINee forever 5. I will support and love them forever.

I'm 67 years old, I found Taemin in 2018, fell in love with his sound and his moves, which led me to SHINee. I've fallen for all the members, though Taemin is my bias, and I've been in deep every since. There isn't anyone else like SHINee and I doubt I'll see another group like them in my lifetime. They are all unapologetically themselves and walking their own path has been a blueprint for all of us weird, independent thinkers and how we too can be ourselves and find success/satisfaction.

The video is well-made that explains why they are still together and the fandoms are getting bigger and stronger. Proud to be Shawol ❤

tbh i opened this video with a bit of skepticism because as a shawol myself i don't really trust people outside of fandom when it comes to talking about shinee and i think you can understand why; but gladly i was wrong this time, the way you worded everything is really speaking to me, i myself couldn't said better, and big props to you for being respective about jonghyun too; they were my first kpop group and i spent slightly more than 10 years with them, my only regret being not finding them earlier, but honestly they found me in a really tough period of my life so maybe it was really meant to be like that; also as a former music school student i think no other group could've picked my interest more because in every listen you still find something new and they never cease to amaze you, their musicality is just really something else....... sorry that was too long but i really love them with all my heart so i maybe were kinda messy (?) with my words here but i really wanted to express my feelings towards them; thank you for this video 💎
