Can we truly call children who have suffered burnout from rote learning and were raised in a competition for scores fiercer than a jungle "talent"? The Truth About College Entrance Exams conducted a six-month in-depth investigation into the daily lives of undergraduate students at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), often referred to as the nation's top talent. In April 2016, an unconventional experiment began at GIST in Gwangju. It was called the "Side Project." It was a challenge designed to transform the studious students who had spent their time merely going back and forth between dormitories and classrooms! It was a project where students engaged in side activities unrelated to their majors or grades for six months. While carrying out the project, the students tasted the bitterness of failure for the first time in their lives, while also discovering dreams they had never known they had. Through the process of freely asking questions, debating, and failing, they gained an opportunity to critically reflect on the exam-oriented, "finding the right answer" education they had received over the past 12 years.
