-"Allow divorced people more freely about the court."
-"Why? I am the head of the Church of England."
I thought the Church of England was founded so that a King could get a divorce.

The way she quietly BRISTLES at the critique when she’s been taught all her life that the institution she represents may not be critiqued but simultaneously sees the point in what he’s saying

He's suggesting every thing that Diana did just by instinct.

"Ah you got a list" gets me every time 😂😂

I love how Foy shows so subtly that the Queen realizes what he says about divorced people--"unkind, discriminatory, quite possibly unlawful"--really convinces her.

The way he says "It's unkind" sends one back to childhood, to being admonished by a kind parent and feeling ashamed at having disappointed them with our ways

“It’s unkind, discriminatory, possibly unlawful” was delivered wonderfully..he was excellent in this scene as well as Clare..

"I don't wish to be known" - that is the Emmy line, right there

And decades later Queen Elizabeth II would gain an acting listing in IMDB for her appearance opposite Daniel Craig (playing James Bond) before having a body double jump out of a helicopter at the 2012 Olympic games.

When you realize the guy you were beefing with was actually right.

Last bit was probably the best advice. Many CEO's and managers could use that advice.

The bristling against treating divorced people with *checks notes* basic respect is so funny given that the list of family divorces would include her sister, her daughter, two of her sons, her nephew, and one of her grandsons.

I believe that opening up to the people, as he suggested the Queen do, is what made Diana, Princess of Wales so popular and beloved☺️

After this she went from just be respected but BELOVED.

This cuts off his bow before he leaves, which is crucial to the scene, in my opinion.

If we had Claire's expression and inner thoughts written out they will fill page after page. What restraint .. what composure ... You can see that she is struggling to accept but at the same time she is comprehending too. Masterclass performance ❤❤❤

Lord Altrincham's was so much of a committed monarchist that his left eyebrow always stayed deferred to his right one.

Ironically a few years before her death, the Queen willing participated in a Zoom video call with commoners (organized by her daughter, Princess Anne).

They said it best in this show: Liz was influenced by Queen Mary who was influenced by Queen Victoria. Her views are positively 19th century. But I did like her come back: how is it equal if I cannot respond?

It’s very subtle and I haven’t seen anyone else bring it up. The way his hand trembles as he goes through the list … there’s no bravado in his critique, though one might assume there is. It demonstrates a respect for the office that may not have been apparent.
