What are the best games to play on your Atari 2600? That's a big question that can be pretty tough to answer, but using my own past ranking videos as a guide, I'm gonna give it a shot. Over the past few years I've been steadily working my way through every game released for the Atari VCS and ranking them from 'S' for 'superb' all the down to 'F' for pbpbbptttt. And while I haven't yet MADE it through every game, across more than a dozen videos and evaluating hundreds of cartridges, we're making good progress.

Great idea for a video: the majority of people under fifty years old need exactly this kind of guide when they're staring at a folder of over 500 ROMs with unfamiliar names.

Damn, I miss being a kid in the 80's!

Raiders of the Lost Ark was the game the kids in my whole apartment complex was into back in 82/83. It doesn't get much mention on these lists, I thought it was much more popular.

Great list! All top tier. But I thought maybe Haunted House should have been an honorable mention.Maybe that's another video.I'll have to watch the complete ranking.

Younger people like myself still enjoy Atari and these more simplistic high score games. Just fun 2 player for an hour

Space Invaders and Asteroids are far more fun to play for me on the 2600 than in the arcade

So many wonderful memories of games I loved!.

That was awesome and brought back memories!! I played the crap out of my Atari

It’s impossible to overstate how groundbreaking Space Invaders was at the time. I truly believe it was THE game that laid the foundation for home video gaming as we know it today. My brother and I got it for Christmas, long after everyone else it seemed. We hardly moved from the floor in front of the TV for a week. Even mom and dad got hooked, and they rarely played Atari.

Ah! I thought this was going to be a S Tier Battle Royale to see which is the greatest 2600 game ever. Great recap, thought.
An idea for future tier lists: games list by genre: space, sports, adventure, arcade ports, shooters, etc. 🤔

Love the video and 100% agree with every game choice! I was born the year the 2600 came out, so I got a little bit of a late start. Around the time I got my first secondhand 2600, the NES came out. We weren’t well off enough to afford one so I had my 2600 till about 1989-1990. I’m glad though because I would’ve never known how awesome Atari was if I hadn’t had to wait on the NES. I have a massive game collection and I think that the Atari stuff is the best of it all and I have the fondest memories video gaming with my 2600. Before my kids grew up I hooked up one in my living room and had them play numerous games with me, although it wasn’t as visually stimulating as their current consoles of that time at least they got to experience games from my youth. Thanks Jon for the great video!
