Greetings from Aus from another over 70 traveller. Finally a like minded sole! My mantra : there are shops where I travel, I can wash my clothes and I really don’t care what others think about my dress choices.

Toiltries, umbrella, jewelry  paper docs (essential emergency situation), snacks, no purse, unrealistic to wear one pair of shoes for 45 days straight (damaged, too wet to wear, soles come apart, etc) soooo much missing. I am 79, europe 2x a year, 3 shirts  2 pants  rent apts w/washer.

Just found your channel!!! Thank you for sharing your cancer journey and dragonfly meaning. As far as the water bottle, it does need to be empty when going thru TSA/security, it can be refilled when you get on airside. I often find a refill station near the restrooms or will tip a bartender a dollar/euro to fill it for me. Your color pallet is beautiful. It would take me longer to tire of it than all black/grey. I currently travel with greens/teals with a bit of purple. Three weeks on a cruise and I was still enjoying them.

I do the same thing — wear water shoes as slippers. I also wear them in the shower if there is no non-slip mat.

I'm 69 but had a vertebrae fracture a few years ago and am nervous about lifting/twisting/push-pull a loaded carry on bag onto the overhead storage compartment on the airplane.  However I have already paid for the carry on! Decided to use it to wheel my underseat backpack and for overflow (light!) clothes on return flight. And just buy a checked bag for the main clothes/stuff. That way i can enjoy dressing up a bit and not stress about buying  (Christmas Markets!). I live in Greece and am going to visit daughter in Germany for a couple of weeks.  I enjoy resale markets and that's part of my fun on travels. It's like the opposite of minimalist-light travelling, but it is less stressful for me. I daydream of getting onto a flight with just my pocketbook and kindle and a small bag, but it'll never happen!

I put my shoes in plastic bread bags before putting them in the suitcase to keep them separate from my clothes. I take an empty water bottle and refill it at one of the water bottle stations after going through security.

For clothing I keep it simple but add a couple of pieces like maybe a black and white striped long-sleeved shirt, a black and white chevron patterned maxi skirt and/or a print vneck sleeveless flowy mini dress (that I use as a long top) that I can wear with cropped leggings and layer either a tank, short sleeved shirt, or long sleeved shirt underneath depending on the weather. The most versatile piece that I have is my long-sleeve chambray shirt that's one size up from what would fit me perfectly. The larger size lets me tie it in front, wear it open like a light jacket, or wear another layer underneath if it's chilly. The longer shirt lets me wear it with leggings too. I also bring different pieces of jewelry to change up the look of the outfits.

I've been traveling on and off for 40+ years and have lived in three countries for the last eight years. If people stop and think carefully about what they wear in an average month, you realize that you tend to wear the same basic items. I live in Europe, and traveling this time of year can be tricky. If you're going to only one climate, that is great, but if you're traveling to several areas, you need to think of packing layers. Southern European countries may be much sunnier and warmer than northern parts of Europe. I use compression packing cubes for my suitcase and use my backpack or large tote that attaches to my case for my electronics and medications. Many airlines are changing carry-on luggage dimensions, so my suitcase has wheels that pop off if airlines want to place it in the luggage sizer. I've even purchased a foldable puffer jacket that folds into a little bag and can also be used as a neck pillow on the plane. If I'm just traveling around Europe by train and know I will be doing a bit of shopping, I use a larger, medium-sized lightweight suitcase. At 67 years young, I travel often. We really don't need much. Interchangeable clothing pieces and fun accessories can make it fun.

Just found your channel - I hope it grows - you deserve it!  I'm 73 and agree with you completely about packing LIGHT.  In fact I've decluttered my whole life to match my tiny suitcase LOL.

Hope you are enjoying your trip.  77 in November here and everyone I know calls my suitcase "the Barbie suitcase".  It is amazing what fits when packing correctly.  I always say that all other countries have the best laundries and dry cleaners - they take it in morning and it is back in the afternoon.  Much cheaper than USA, very soft clothing and allows for Barbie suitcases. lol
