This is my FIRST TIME diving into BLACKPINK… so I started where every new fan should: a Beginner’s Guide 🖤💗

But let’s be real, guides aren’t always perfect.

So BLINKs, I need you to do ONE thing 👇

• New fans like me, welcome… we’re figuring this out together

👇 Drop timestamps, corrections, inside jokes, fan culture, and things beginners always misunderstand.
I’m reading everything.

BLINKS — if anything in this guide is outdated, oversimplified, or just straight-up WRONG, call it out below.
Drop corrections, extra context, inside jokes, or things beginners always misunderstand.
I’m learning this with the fans, not pretending to know it all. Appreciate you 💗

It's called Bias. They are called idols. You can have a bias wrecker, a bias or like all 4, which is OT4 .

In 2023 the girls extended their contract with YG Entertainment, but did not sign a contract for solo activities. Each of the members is responsible for her own solo music. Jennie opened her company ODDATELIER, Rosè signed a contract with the Black Label, Jisoo opened the company BLISSOO, Lisa opened LLOUD. As a band, they will be releasing music, but for now they are focused on solo activities. In July, they started their world tour DEADLINE, and they also released the single Jump. In January, the band is set to release a new album.

Okay, no BS. Watch the Netflix Documentary "Light Up The Sky". Then watch all of their Official m/vs. There are lots of fan-made videos for songs they didn't put out their own video for, but the core Blackpink videos (all of which have more than a BILLION views) are amazing. Especially, "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du", "Boombayah", "How You Like That", "Kill This Love", "Playing with Fire", "Shut Down", and "Jump". Hell all of them are f---ing fire! Literally, every m/v they've made. Plus they have dance performance videos like choreography rehearsal tapes that are ALL awesome. Then, check out the solo projects that each of them have done. Rosé with Bruno Mars "APT" is the biggest hit any have done, and will probably win the Grammy for song of the year 2025. Lisa's "LaLisa" and "Money" are bad ass. Jennie's "Like Jennie" is fire. And Jisoo's "Flower" is beautiful and cool as f----. You can't go wrong. Blackpink is badass in every way. They are all so beautiful, so nice, so funny, and so ridiculously talented, I have a feeling you're gonna be hooked real fast. Enjoy!

In K-pop, it's normal to release solo projects while in a band. The group does not break up, it just allows the participants to show themselves not only in the group, but also solo

BLACKPINK currently has 30 original songs, not counting solos, covers or collabs originated by other artists.

YG Entertainment originally started with a pool of about twenty members. As weeks, months and years went by the pool started shrinking, some were let go and others quit, not wanting to invest more time with no guarantee of debuting. The group eventually got down to five, but one member was let go because she was found to be dating (which is prohibited in their contract) That member eventually signed with another company and debuted, her name is Miyeon and she is the Main Vocalist and Visual of the popular K-Pop group (G)I-DLE. The remaining four members became BLACKPINK.

Slight correction, "idol" just refers to any highly trained K-Pop performer, the term that you're looking for is "bias" which means your favorite member in a group. In this case Rosé is your bias. There's also a "bias-wrecker" which is a member that draws your attention away from your bias. In my case Rosé is my bias and Lisa is my bias-wrecker. I went to their first World Tour and during the Sound Check I gave Rosé a gift and she thanked me! I was literally floating for the rest of the show, here's a video I shot at the end of the concert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-S6iNz4DjM
