Well, that's romantic as hell, although being rejected meant a guy ended up alone, broken up and in a box. Rather risky stuff. And about Miku and Mafuyu... well, lemme just grab my banjo

Kirie: "Honey, how nice, your sister is visiting."
Mafuyu: "Um...hear me out, dear..."

Haven't been able to play yet, but Maiden of Black Water is my favorite in terms of lore. There's just so much of it, and they way it all ties together is fantastic.

I remember playing this and wondering why it made a note about the mystery behind Miu's father.
But as more and more of the concept of Ghost Marriages unraveled, I started to wonder. They really wouldn't do it ... would they?
And well, Fatal Frame has always been tragic or bitter-sweet at best, and even after reaching the end of Miku's story, Fatal Frame delivered both yet again.

More Fatal Frame lore videos are always appreciated! Maybe more stuff about FFV, like the lore behind the black water, the Flame Keepers, or that white-haired girl running around the mountain? Lore from the other FF games would be nice too, like 3 and 4.  Thank you for continuing this series!

I never had a Wii U and I’m waiting on the PS4 remake, but I’m such a FF lover that I long ago spoiled V’s rituals for myself. However, the Ghost Marriage was definitely something I was curious about, given the backlash it caused regarding Miku. Very cool!

If you're gonna write stuff in because it coincidentally has of a stronger emotional element, why not use a character with a dead fiancé and, being a distant relative of Hisoka Kurosawa, a descendant of a Maiden? Maybe the events of Fatal Frame 3 would've awoken Rei's Shadow Reading ability, and while initially happy to have a child with Yuu, with her new power, Miu was a constant reminder of the loss. After going through Yuu's notes to find some way to end the pain, would come across notes from Yuu's ancestor, Kunihiko Asou and the photo he kept of Ose. With her shadow reading, would learn about the Ghost Marriage, wanting finally to marry Yuu, then abandon Miu. Have it be Miku raising Miu in order to pay back what Rei and Yuu did for her. I think it'd be better if the game's protagonists had been a descendant of Dr. Asou, Ren Hojo, and the other a descendant of a Maiden of Black Water (who coincidentally was also related to Dr. Asou...and being shadowborn, unaffected by the Black Water).

Wait…Miku and Mifuyu did what? Like, the same Miku and Mifuyu from earlier entries in the series? I don’t think I’ll ever look at them the same way now.

A bit late with this one, but I'm very happy you're still covering Fatal Frame! I'm hoping the remaster for V gets enough sales that we eventually get a new one. The lore of the main ghosts and rituals has always been my favorite part of the series.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Yuri's suicide ending is her performing the Ghost Bride ritual with Ose. At first I didn't read it that way, but once I replayed the game and put Ose's words in perspective (her wanting to live with Asou while dying with Yuri) it suddenly clicked. It's dark as hell, but fits disturbingly well with Yuri's story coming full circle. After all, what is Fatal Frame without a heartbreaking tragedy?

I only heard about Ghost marriage via a horror movie from my country the Philippines.

It's based from Chinese folklore and stuff

So she did it without his consent... That makes it way worst.

Mafayu: "KIRIE I CAN EXPLAIN!"

That was a really nice piece of lore.

as for miku and mafuyu...maybe rather than incestuous feelings, miku just really fucking missed her brother and it's her desperation to connect with him somehow that led to her picking ghost marriage to him, as there was literally no other way to connect with his soul? and miu was basically mafuyu trying to give her something to keep going for?

EDIT: ok, trying to relieve some of the weight he's bearing with watching the hell gate in ff1 makes more sense, so maybe miu was an accidental by-product of the ghost marriage rather than the two of them actually doing anything?

i mean, couldnt they have just used rei and her fiancée for that ????

Well for me, i still think Miu father can still be Kei. N Miu may not be the shadowkon but still could inherited the ability to see ghost from her mom (Miku) and Miku final motivation to appear in ff5 still remain unchange that she want to see her brother and want to help ease her brother suffering by performing ghost marriage.

Or Better one would be Miu mother's is Rei (FF3) instead of Miku. N Rei have even better motivation to perform Ghost Marriage with Yuu (Her fiance).

I hope you will do one on Shiragiku (her part confuses me a little) or one about fatal frame 4 since it wasn't released to the us

I know this is a year late but, I'm glad this doesn't turned out to become ghost harem game.

Taboo is the spice of fiction. Only add a little at a time to liven up a bland story, but adding too much will make the dish inedible. Though how much spice is too much spice depends on the person. For me, as long as it's fictional, I like my stories a little spicy. ;)

My friend and I disagree with Kei not being a good choice. As unless u get the super hard mode ending- Kei disappears. Miku arguably perhaps could have felt the residual guilt as once again, after surviving another spiritual battle- they lost someone. Kei is suffering in the mansion of sleep or elsewhere. Ghost incest was not unavoidable! 😆 but oh well…. It’s done and can’t take it back.

I hope they make another fatal frame sequel with Mio as the main character again. I want to find out what happened to her after all these years.
