I love when photographers are able to articulate so well why they shoot what they shoot - Paloma clearly has a great understanding of her artistic practice, it's amazing

Some of the most beautiful images I’ve ever seen. Thank you for showcasing this !!

Keep these artist features coming. They are a fantastic way to learn about new artists and support the photo community. Thank you for doing them!

it's always quite something to see a photographer able to explain his/her process and thoughts with such clarity.

I like how she refers to 8x10 as generous. And the tip of the iceberg comment, how there's an intimacy with the image that develops long after standing there at the scene. Bravo.

your interviews are probably one of my favorites I've seen, I rewatch them all the time I'm happy you actually started to do them, please keep it up you're doing amazing oatmeal boi :')

It's truly refreshing (in this day and age) to come across a photographer who doesn't seem to be pushing a hollow concept disguised as profound philosophy. You can clearly tell she's genuine, and her passion for communicating through her images shines through.

Did not know of her work before seeing this. Fabulous photos.

I agree, your interviews are fantastic and important. More large format photographers please!

My back hurts looking at one of those cameras. Massive respect to the photographers that use those 👏

She is wicked smart and talented. Her photographic perspective is incredibly unique and the way she talks is almost poetic.

What an excellent, enjoyable, and inspiring watch! Thanks to you and Paloma for producing this.

Wear an orange safety vest and have "SURVEY CREW" printed on the back. You'll instantly become invisible. I use my Nikon D800 for sketches -- film is so expensive. I shoot an 11 x 14" Deardorff and shoot Ilford HP5 B & W. I process my own film and make my own contact prints. I won't shoot color. One final tip: If you are ever having trouble mounting the camera onto the tripod, remove the ground glass and you will be able to sight down onto the mounting screw better. Also, I attached 5 little furniture bumpers to the bottom of the camera so I can feel it better -- it just drops down onto the head. My camera weight 25 lbs. without a lens. I make pictures of the constructed and natural world. I keep it simple.

@9:46 "where you're getting ready to believe in another world"  -- such a profoundly thoughtful perception, witnessing that phenomenon in the photo.

Another masterful, refreshingly patient, rich portrait of an artist I hadn’t known about. Bravo, Willem.

The third photograph is almost the same as in Joshuas Dudley Greer, somewhere along the line photo book, same location.

Interesting and beautiful work. Thank you.

She is tremendously likable and talented.

a great interview, quite inspiring, I shoot 4x5 (a sinar F2) with 120 film, YES, as Paloma says even 4x5 sheet film is expensive, especially in Australia, where I live, eg I just got two boxes (25 sheets) of Ilford HP5+ and thats a cheap ish stock, but still costs $200 for it, so ~$4-7 per sheet. I shoot similar, but my landscape and architecture shooting concentrates on analogue life, aka how buildings differ through time, where stone and 'concrete & Glass' structures are near each other, their interaction, also street 'art' and how painters see the world, as their work beautifies an otherwise blank 'white washed' wall.

Willem, I love your work, but this video ended up being one of my all time favorites; it just hits. Your intention comes through so well even when you're not directly in front of the camera. If you enjoy these as much as I think you do, then please keep making videos like this because they're inspirational and I like learning about new photographers work

Amazing artist portrait, amazing lady doing not-in-your-face stuff but very subtle to take a second and third look at. I love the contacts for the black blacks even if you are losing detail.
