Disturbance While Camping! Has It Happened To You? Let Me Know! | Do You Fear Of Camping Alone?

The plan was a solo wild camp in good weather minding my own business until a group of walkers were unhappy with me camping. While setting up, I had some verbal abuse/instructions directed towards me. This is the first time I have had this and probably one of many reasons why people are afraid to camp alone! Hopefully this will be the first and last time this happens.

Have you ever had someone or a group shout down at you when you’re in your tent minding your own business? Let me know in the comments if you have. Using this video to ask fellow campers if you have been moved on or had similar or worse interactions shown on this video. Never expected this to happen on any camp. It did give me the opportunity to say that we all have the responsibility to LNT no matter what you’re doing on the hills. I am fairly confident if I was not camping and just chilling on the grass at that spot without camping gear I wouldn’t have had those comments directed at me. I did see a little bit of rubbish on the path during this trip which was a shame. Let’s all make sure we try to keep Scotland tidy.

A few words can have a surprisingly powerful effect and sometimes they can stay with you and affect your whole day if you let them. As I’ve got older I’ve learned to try not to dwell on negativity. You can’t control what other people say but you can choose how much space you give it in your mind. Life is too short to let a few negative words take away your peace. Great video bro! Don’t let someone else’s negativity stop you from enjoying the things that make you happy 🙂⛺

I’m a solo female camper and a couple of times I’ve had men say something to try and scare me. I’ve learnt to not give them too much time in my head and consider what unhappy lives they must have. I don’t let their negativity spoil or take way the beauty I see and feel

It's same here in the lakes, I live local to Ennerdale, been camping here since I was 8 years old, I'm 48 now and a few months ago around Easter I had a group of people hiking past my camp shouting at me because I was camped up on Bowness,(out of the way tbh) and was told I was camped illegally and I was a disgrace to people who love the outdoors.

There's a lot of fly campers around lately, and there's been several campaigns from various groups to cull fly campers and the local national trust and police have been very active and I understand people just see a tent and think we're one of those fly campers.

I walked over to the people and explained who and where I'm from, and about LNT but it fell on deaf ears.
I ended up threatening them which I'm not proud of but it did make them make a sharp exit back down the hill.
They didn't even sound local, they sounded like they were from the midlands probably on an Easter break tbh.

But afterwards I realised this is a sign of the times, fly camping is a real problem, so much so that this is the first summer I haven't been out camping, not even locally, I'll wait for the colder weather now.

It's just a case of fly campers ruining it for everyone and the general public just see someone camping and tarnus with the same brush sadly.

It's always the campers or the campervans, but they never shout at the teenage drivers who throw litter out their car windows!

The only time I've ever had hassle from anyone is when I've actively asked a land (spit) owner for permission to camp out on the land.

Been up Ben Vorlich and a Ben Chonzie opposite many a time when I lived in Comrie, often bivvying a night or two, and never had an issue. Even estate workers or shepherd with dogs passing my camp stopped for a hello and chat. (A85 btw)

A majority of wild campers are the most responsible people on the hill. It’s groups of leisure walkers often leaving their rubbish behind, or the sort of young drunk idiots who come up in groups and drinking sessions who don’t give a stuff about the countryside. If someone shouted at me, I’d point that out to them as they need educating!

If those people actually saw someone leaving a mess they wouldn’t say anything.
I visit the Lakes on a regular basis and over the years the mess / litter / human 💩 has kept getting worse .
People are losing respect for their surroundings. Places don’t stay “ nice “ unless they are looked after .
Social media is a wonderful thing but it can also be a curse because some people watch videos like this ….visit the place to take a selfie and leave all their crap .
On a positive note…..great video , awesome views 👍
